So today, I bought my brother-in-law's 98 Passat. A great car, and in terrific shape, but it's the first car I've owned that is a stick shift. I had to drive it 45 miles from my sisters place to mine, about 80% on the freeway. I only stalled once, but my shifting was rusty and I didn't feel as in control as I have with my automatics. This isn't the first time i've driven stick, but the first that I've owned, so I was extremely leery.

I couldn't find the recent stick-shift thread, so Ill make another request for stick shift cars. What was your first stick? Were you a ttoal noob or a instant natural at shifting?

My first stick was a 90 T-Bird Super Coupe. Beat the outta it. Went through 2 transmissions in 1 year.

First manual I ever drove was an old Toyota pick up. Later got some more practice on a Honda Accord (worst one ever), then some nice time on a Nissan 300 ZX. There's no smoother shifting than on a sports car like that 300 ZX.

i actually learned to drive on a car with manual. i think all people should. manual is much more fun than auto, unless you're stuck in a traffic jam:wtf:
