It always helps if you're able to get the demo to the person listening to them directly. If you send them to an address found from a webpage they'll just end up in the "to do" pile, whereas if you happen to know someone who knows someone... ;) |

Agreed, its all about who you know. Admittedly if your track is wank then it still wont get anywhere, but at least it will get a listen / laugh. I'm talking from experience, I sent a load of my early stuff off beacuse I thought it was great!! I listen to it now and laugh that I actually considered it for labels:haha:
On the plus side, if you send stuff to Armin he replies personally to all. He replied to me, I was very impressed. |

why dont some ppl off tranceaddict start up there own label between themselves and put out there own records.i think most ppl off ta would gadly give 10euro towards ta label that has been set up and buy the records..there enought ppl with experience in terms of productions and magenmemt, ppl doing this for years..
and before ppl start jumping the gun at me and saying be quiet..think bout it first.
nothing to lose but all to gain |

Send a minidisk in a can of beans(empty), and name track one can of beans. That would give you a head start I reckon. Furthermore, don't be lazy on your mixes. For the first track on the demo pull out every technique you know.
Usualy a label takes on as many producers as ones that leave them. Unless they are growing wich is rare today due to an unstable market. So it makes sense to send your can of beans to a lable with many, many producers. These lables aren't always the most high quality lables.
Some internet based lables that supply .mp3 downloads only have hundreds of producers, most of which suck. But the fact that only harddisk space on their servers is required to sign someone means less screening is needed before a signing is done. You can always jump to a vinyl store at a later stage. But the experience of having your music published in some way is a good way to learn, and you can mention it on your CV you send to a lable.
kind regards,

Sending demos to labels is probably the worst way to try to get their attention. Like was said here already, they get a ton of demos, most go into the trash simply because they have too many to listen to, so they have to just randomly pick a few to check out. You can't and shouldn't expect to get a reply from a label just because you sent a demo to them.
One way to be sure you get listened to, is to enter remix contests that labels sometimes hold, because they have to listen to every submission. I personally know a producer that got noticed by a label this way. The thing is, if your music is good enough, you will get noticed eventually.
PS: Maybe I should read all the other replies before I respond. I'm oldschool I guess, coming from the world of rock and heavy metal, and pre-intertet labels. What nhibberd said makes a lot of sense, about internet labels not being terribly picky. The above producer got hooked up with one of those, Enoise actually, through a remix contest. He's a U.S. A&R now for that label. His tracks are good, but not great (he even admits this), but the label featured one of his tracks on their site and sold 200 in a few weeks or so. Anyways, point taken, the internet has changed the music bizz is a lot of ways, it's all good. |

| True. But to some extent it's often who you know rather than what you know that gets you into the scene. And in my personal oppinion the ammount of butt-kissing in the world of trance makes me want to try to produce tunes for a local nursery. |

| I agree 100% nhibberd. Read the PS I added above. Yep, who you know is such an important factor. Networking is always beneficial. Kissing ass just comes across as phoney to a lot of people. Just be friendly and try to get in with a good group of DJs and producers, and let your music speak for itself. |

Honestly I cant guess why mate.
I was impressed that he took time out to reply when thousands of other DJ's / producers etc wont even take time to remove themselves from their own arses to listen to the little guys.
I suppose if you have a name that isn't known and you are trying to get a 1st release its all down to one of three things:
1. You are very lucky - right place right time etc
2. You produce a groundbreaking tune
3. You know someone who is already in the game
The third option is the worst IMO. Because a lot of can get released that way just because a person knows a famous person. It often leads to tunes titled like this:
Tiesto / Armin /G & D etc presents............. |

Have you posted any of your recent tracks on the forum?
By the way, it's "reply" not "replay". |
