Labels that don't reply (pg. 3)

I get replies (except from Anjuna, they're weird). I heard one trick is to not give your track a title, i.e. for me: "Wandii__-_Untitled_Track_001.mp3" ... dunno why though =) But yeh, labels are generally ghey. =D

Really? That's the complete opposite to what I've heard...

By the way, it's "reply" not "replay".

yes I did.

Well I don't want to get signed by a label who releases so much crap for money.
I'm sure armin is a nice guy and all, but his not in my agenda.

sometimes i think sending demos off before you are good enough to send em will put the labels off your future, more professional work. it would me!

i find somatic to be very good to get back. they are blunt but let you know the score.

black hole also reply with a standard prewritten email. as does perry o neil.

marco v, i found to be very pleasant. he told me the flaws in the trax i sent but said he has been listening to the cd in his car.

i think a confirmation that they have received/downloaded is nice. then you know that if they dont reply its cos they didnt like the track.

Thats why I am looking a way to contact marco v.
lol infact I've been asking pepole all over the world for his msn/email address/icq just to contact him.
His site doesn't reveal any info.
Somatic doesn't give a very detailed review on the track, just a couple of words.

firstly, as nik said, you have to be very careful when it comes to signing tracks, many a label are all up for it then back out, sometimes after contracts are sent out. unless you are qualified or know somebody else who is in the field of law it's pretty much lost love.

secondly, running a label myself i try and listen to whatever demos i do get sent but if i get sent clips in low bitrate via yousendit i'm not gonna bother replying. prepare for harsh words if this is you: you didn't listen to what the label is trying to offer soundwise, you sent me a short clip in crap bitrate so i can't even tell what the tune is like and you sent it on a free file hosting service. everybody gets free directly linkable space with their isp, so use it.

thirdly, if i have a nice full 192k+ mp3 i can see whether the artist has the potential either as a composer or a producer or both, excellent! i can play the track nice and loud, or in a club while setting up to see what it sounds like or even to an audience to give it some airtime to see what kind of reaction it gets. if it's good but not for the label i will forward it to somebody else with the artists permission who is likely to pick it up.

but please don't start caining out demos until you are completely happy with the sound of your track and it is respected likewise by others. even on here on the music producers forum there are people falling by the second pitfall i just outlined, and that's on the internet to be reviewed by producing peers. if they can't get a good impression of the track or help you the chances with a label are going to be a hell of a lot more slim

the only way is to get off your arse and send a cd with a lot of dj's. cos they get sent so many mp3's and nowhere near as much cd's anymore.

i sent marco v my cd and i got a nice reply... but after five months!

if there aint a email address its cos they only want stuff that is worth sending on a cd.

The success in replies with labels has been a good one with me, though in a different genre, Minimal. I normally try to send to producers that are members of a minimal forum with a close community, they'll more than likely always reply despite what I send being mp3's. The dj's themselves are most often label owners signed up to the forum so it's direct and they are polite in their response.

Might not be helpful to many, but for some others, try smaller labels with dj's you can easily get in touch with and they will more than likely have the time for you, however good or bad the track is.

Include a good bottle of vintage wine or champagne with your promo-cd works wonders ;) I'm sure it will be the first package to be opened and avoid the bin as many often do.

if thats your point of view, you'll probably never get anything released.

its like saying, i'm anxious to get a car, but if i dont get a bmw i dont take any car.

its not about the labels you want. its about the labels that want you. ;)
