had a pretty good gig last night (crowd was dancing having a great time) and i was mixing well. however i had the fcukin worst night in the booth.
at 8pm when i had finished wiring in the decks, i told the tech to switch me onto the club sound system. well music came on alrite but it was the DJ from the other room! couldnt find the guy for 15 mins so i had to wait for him to come back to sort it out. once that was done i thought right lets start my set no more probs. track one plays fine, start mixing in track 2, it comes out very low on the master. not the needles fault but rather the connector on the tonearm. needed a new turntable so for a half hour while they go get a spare from a nearby club, im spinning one tune, turning down the volume, and replacing it with another record. finally the next turntable arrives and this one seems to be working alrite, but as the guy is wiring in the grounds you hear static bursts over the club system. after that things were fine....for a while.
at about 12 one of my needles breaks. have NO CLUE how this happened. shure whitelabels, 1 month old, correct weight/height settings and i dont scratch or cue too heavily. it was just playing the record then all of a sudden it starts skipping like crazy until finally it just slid along the record. i was incensed. i quickly threw on a CD with 3 songs mixed back to back while i investigated the problem. the stylus was short and bent a little to the left (like nous dick) when it would be perfectly straight. tried pushing it back into place which worked a little. the needle would track but i had to be very gentle and girly (like nou) when cueing as it didnt track when going backwards.
during all this is i was playing a great set and the crowd were going wild and for the last 90 mins i really got into it and had a good time, forgetting all the previous trouble. when i dropped the last record, there was a huge roar of approval from the crowd and that made me smile. when i turned the music off they were shouting "MORE MORE MORE" but the powers said no. then to round off my night my headphones feel off the table, smacked the ground and snapped. RIP HDJ1000s. Well that summed up the kinda night i was having :whip:

"Male, 20, massacres night club management" :D
im sticking to using my CDJ1000s from now on. no grounding issues, no broken needles etc.. no hassle. the turntables in that place are in poor order (not to mention the mixers) |

... sounds like it could have turned out a hell of a lot worse had you not improvised as well. Having said that, i'm sure the management were impressed with how you dealt with it.
Be a good way to test a new dj wouldn't it.. lol start messing with his equipment see how he reacts!
