what makes a fastfood place a fastfood place?

As teh title says, what exactly makes a place a fast food place, and what makes one not a fast food place.
I am screaming it is a drive thru. others disagree. |

Drive thru. Quickly prepared foods, hence, "fast food."

Yes, they *must* spell it "thru" - if it is spelt "through", it is just a restaurant with express take-out. |

doesn't have to be the drive thru. i consider subway a fastfood place. or jimmy johns.
basically, if you can get your food in under 10 mins [5 mins if the place is good], then it's fast food. |

| yeah, drive thru and quickly made food/service (usually, unless its jack n the box bull where they dont make it till you order it) |

so 10 mins is the cut off time? cause I know ive been to sit down resturaunts where I got food in under 10 mins. |

Wendy's is also kinda 'we don't make it till you order it' but not as fresh as Steak N Shake.
Taco Bell...Mel's the taco bell queen around here. :p |
