That sound, thereafter referred to pejoratively as the "Ferry Corsten preset", would come to be known as Dutch Trance and would dominate uninteresting production values in trance music for the next five years.

But you can't blame Ferry for that. Only blame the legions of unoriginable sobs who couldn't come up with anything original of their own accord and simply wanted to rip him off instead.

10 points for effort Ish, but your wrong. The JP8080 supersaw waveform consists fo 8 detuned oscillators. He didnt 'create it' either, Roland did. Theres a button on it that says 'supersaw'. He just pushed it. Dutuning would be nothing like 50% either. More like 1-2% per oscillator. Detune an oscillator that much and it sounds very . An FYI, and ADSR is an envelope. Perhaps you mean both a filter and an amplitude envelopes, which infact is bog standard design for any sort of synth since the 1970's.

The supersaw is infact used a great deal in most other forms of music including EBM, psy, drum n bass, electro to name a few, its just used a whole lot more creatively than in your averaged dutched up anthem. A well filtered supersaw is capable of a huge array of sounds that go far beyond 'that trance sound' that its known for.

Back on topic though.... Albion- Air. Awesome track! I love that pulsing rhythmic sound at the start. Kinda sounds like a sample sped up or something. You just dont get that kind of groove in trance these days.

I'll take your word for it, since I don't actually have one.

I originally said it was a JP-8000, until someone corrected me, but who knows what they know.....so I'm running on hearsay and gross speculation of others.

Saw waves are common The detuned, "wall-of-sound" dutch supersaw is not.

But what do I know. Tell you what: I'll make a Dutch Trance anthem this summer copying, verbatim, all of Ferry's techniques. Without a trace of irony. Honest-to-goodness.

sound fair?

Only if the title of it contains some of these words in it:
Air
Sun
Rise
Wave

OK, who are you and what have you done with Ishkur??

Didnt know you produced!? Moreso I thought you hated anthem trance. lol. Or is this an excercise to prove some cookie cutter theory?

Either way, I'll be awaiting the results of this bizarre experiment eagerly ;)

I totally agree. The Palefield and Hybrid remixes are what makes these ones a keeper in my bag.

yes.. i'd be interested to hear it. infact, don't post it up publicly when you're done, use a guise and try sending it out to miscellaneous trance djs or even labels to get it some airtime, and see if anyone picks up on it. not that i'm challenging you or anything, will just be interesting to see if it gets anywhere :p

PlasticSoul

Nice choice RebeL9 :)

Listening to Albion - Air (Ferry Corsten's Open Air Remix) from his Very Best Of CD. Would still kill the dancefloor in 2006 :)
