Albion - Air
Ferry Corsten's unforgettable Air was originally released only as a B-side on the "Reach For The Sky EP" in 1997.
The tune was soon picked up by Platipus and given a proper release in 1998 with the acid driven Palefield Mountains remix.
Air quickly became one of the most popular releases of Platipus.
Ferry Corsten also soon realized that his original Air did sound a bit dated and decided to refreshen it for the new millenium. The result was Air 2000. It was companioned with two outstanding remixes by Oliver Lieb and Hybrid. A less known remix by The Swimmer was also released.
Air is in my opinion propably Ferrys best production till date. It's dreamy atmosphere together with all small twisted sound effects makes wonders.

| good track but i still think both Palefield Mountain outdid the original. and that Hybrid's & The Swimmer's remix are far better than ferry's 2000 version and lieb's remix |

That's where he created the "supersaw", using a Roland JP-8080 to create an oscillated generated waveform consisting of two saw waves running together, one detuned 50% above the other and ran through two ADSR, one filter and one envelope.
That sound, thereafter referred to pejoratively as the "Ferry Corsten preset", would come to be known as Dutch Trance and would dominate uninteresting production values in trance music for the next five years.
But you can't blame Ferry for that. Only blame the legions of unoriginable sobs who couldn't come up with anything original of their own accord and simply wanted to rip him off instead. |
