Ecstacy became a banned substance because after officials starting seeing vast amounts of otherwise 'normal' people with careers, families and no history of deviant behaviour doing it on a weekly basis they saw a doomsday scenario - one where pleasure (to the extreme) was fueling the average citizen rather than productivity.(People were dropping pills in Texas in 1982, go figure) It was becoming popular amongst various circles and the side effects were not well documented -- that stuff about 'holes in the brain' came about from flawed research put forth by the government in order to get MDMA banned way back in 1985 - basically there was no peer review of the study that 'concluded' this and future attempts to duplicate those findings all failed.

I agree that it should be banned - but I disagree on the attention given to it being seen as a death sentence - if it was as bad as claimed we'd be seeing dozens of deaths every weekend in clubs/house parties all around the world.

Mind you, some people are already ed up enough without drugs, let alone after - those are the ones I worry about.

well I guess we can say that it may be unsafe for 13 year old females.

I ended up reading about that right after I made my post, but I didn't want to go back and edit it with all my new found information. It's still a function of a laughable United States governemnt, though, so I was part right :p

del the report you spoke of was the NIDA study, that claimed among other things that MDMA caused parkinsons disease. this study was done on monkeys who were injected with near lethal doses of "MDMA" which turned out to be methamphetamine actually as, acording to NIDA, the pharmaceutical supply company mis labled the shipment.

so moral and conclusion of this report is, that if your injecting rediculus amounts of speed, you may get parkinsons or die. i belive their fatality rate in the monkeys was close to 12% which would mean of all the millions of people who have done E in the last decade or so we should have seen a pile of deaths.

a german team of scientists tried to replicate these results to no success. they tried to replicate a second NIDA study on E users which claimed a permanent seratonin loss of up to 89%. the german study however was the only one to use hair sampling as their method of drug testing which is the most accurate method we have. this allowed them to eliminate subjects who were doing more than E.

their conclusions based over a 2 year study term. users who dosed E as frequently as every weekend could see a reduction in seratonin levels of up to 8% over about a year i think. interstingly enough, after 6 months of not taking the drug, the subjects levels returned to normal.

they dont claim that E has no long term effects, but they have concluded that the short term effects of MDMA are negligable.

NOW DONT TAKE THIS AS AN E IS GREAT STUDY

A: We still have no idea what it does to us in the long run.
B: Drugs sold on the street are dirty, there is no such thing as a clean pill. Chemicals like 2Ci, PMA, 2CT7 etc are extreemly dangerous and are not to be confused with MDMA

Using E is not 100% safe but one can make the risk manageable by testing the pills, moderating use, start off slow, dont drop two pills at once, do a bit and if you get a weird feeling stop, and make sure you buy your pills from someone you trust. but dont take their word on pill quality.

I love E, ill be honest, but im smart about my use. i dont use it all the time, i usually only drop once a year. party safe, party smart and we can avoid incidents like this one in the future

Actually it is known. I was watching this documentary on ecstasy and its long term effects. Doctors conducted some brain scans on a teenage girl with a long history of 'x' and after the scans they concluded that she had the brain of a 60 year old and all this other medical jargon. From what I understood in this documentary is that ecstascy does most of its damage to the brain.

Which one were you watching? This one was wery well recived if i remember correctly.

Anyway i dont know about other people, but ive been off E for about 3 years now and my short term memory is still crap and it didnt use to be. A few of my good friends say they have similar expriences. Though it must be said we newer did just E.

"Ecstasy-related" and MDMA related are two different things. MDMA is relatively safe, if taken in moderation, with plenty of water. "Ecstasy" could have anything in it. since the average clubber rarely tests their pills, it could have anything from aspirin to a very dangerous MDMA-like chemical (PMA). Also, a close cousin of MDMA, MDA, is proven to be neurotoxic without a doubt (but also a lot more visual and fun). If you ever get a in bomb-ass pill, it's most likely an MDMA/MDA mix (such as my avatar).

the girl either didn't keep herself hydrated, or happened upon a bad pill.

the moral of the story is, test your pills before you eat them.

hey stevie-boy, i have links that proves that damage to the brain from ecstasy affect the axons of the brain cells, and not the actual cells themselves. therefore, the axons grow back (but not in the same places).

Keep in mind that the US' main "facts" about ecstasy are based upon a study that was formally retracted a year ago. it ends up that the scientist doing the study (Dr. George Ricaurte) used methamphetamine instead of MDMA on the test subjects, which caused those wonderfully grotesque "this is your brain on ecstasy" pics..

check this out... ecstasy fears based on "flawed tests"

pretty much, all of the studies on MDMA are incomplete at best. no one really knows. for every study that curses it, there's another that backs it up, you know?

Last paragraph from that link.

Thing that hasn't been mentioned is that even though it is suggested that damage to the brain my be minimal (I say may), there are other things to consider such as increased heart rate and its affect, and also possibility of kidney damage from filtering out the chemicals in the blood stream.
