Generally good movies, yes, but how many bad movies must we hay to pay for to get one good movie? In 60+ years of modern American Film, the good movie percentage is probably below 1%. Really, I made this thread in response to the Indian movie thread though....Why would you expect their ratio to be better than American movies or even equivilant?

I apologize, I should have posted accordingly in that thread.

Because, (and I've explained this notion in another thread elsewhere in the c0r) Hollywood is A BUSINESS, first and foremost. They're in it to make money, not to entertain.

Unfortunately Hollywood has an iron fist when it comes to distribution. Years ago, Hollywood had a monopoly with first-run theaters and exhibition centers. Hollywood owned theaters and pretty much told the theater owners what they could show. But they got caught with anti-trust suit. Hollywood had to break off all ties, we started getting independent studios (like RKO). Hollywood still controls what gets distributed though, even today.

Anyways, the point i'm trying to make is, there ARE good, phenomenal films out there, most likely their independent features by directors like Jim Jarmusch, Darren Aronofsky, Steven Soderbergh etc..

But you have to realize that with every 1 film that potentially does well at the box office (Spider-Man for example), there'll be countless others to try and snag some more money. That's why we have sequels galore and remakes up the yin yang. Because two or three sequels or remakes made incredibly good money for Hollywood.

You're forgetting Finding Nemo! What a great film... Shrek 2 kicked ass too! You have to admit Shrek 2 was funny
