I hope Trance or for that matter anything EDM never becomes mainstream because that will just kill the reason people make music. People would wanna do it for money and status rather than talent and sound. Jon O' Bir is a perfect example and so is Tiesto and many others. This is a very interesting topic, very argumentative but yet could be very knowledgeble. |
+1
Lets hope all you budding djs are doing it for passionate reasons, doing it because you love your art and the creative elements behind it. It's the same for any artist out there, whether it be fine arts, music, dance or even edm. I'm sure that's how Sasha, Tiesto, Armin, Preach and all the others started out. If you're in it for the dj whores and the moolah, well then, you're just a gino :D |

Well, to us he's Hillary Duff. To the majority out there, outside the TA bubble, he's like, WTF is this? |

there is a difference Jay ... Tiesto is one guy ... Trance ... is a whole world :) if one dj or few djs of the lot are mainstream then it does not mean the whole industry is. And Tiesto hasnt made real trance since 2002 or maybe even before that so ummm yea he dun count lolz |

I dont think you can turn on NBC and see Britney spears performing...or 50 cent etc. If you mean Much music/MTV then yeah, but NBC. No artist besides maybe on a telethon will get air time on those kinds of networks.
Trance is definately mainstream in Europe and has been for a while. Its growing in popularity here but definately not even close to mainstream imo. And if it ever does become that way it has a long way to go. I doubt it ever will be here. Way too many urban/rap wannabe fans out there. |

Britney doesnt need NBC if her shows get live airtime on HBO :)

Yes and in many ways it's unfortunate:( Sure we need some big name atrists, who sort of act as ambassadors of the scene, who open the doorway for people who listen to commercail into underground music.
A few of the big name artists are diluting and softing up there style to appeal to a bigger audience. When this happens the music comes out of the underground and losses it's progressive edge.
In other words it's being created more to sell records not for the love and to push the boundries.
Luckly there are still some trance dj's who still keep it
less-commercial. The Docks last night was a good example of this:D |

| Can't be easy from a top dj's perspective. That jet-setting lifestyle, harsh hours, loud smokey venues, etc, can't be too healthy and gotta be taxing after awhile. Meanwhile, some company like Sony or Creative, or Playstation or some movie/commercial offers some huge ass money for way, way less work, though you have to deal with some execs who know nothing about underground music wanting you to soften up your stuff for the masses. |
