///NOSTALGIA ALERT/// Your favorite Twilo moment

I dunno why but all of the sudden I got this nagging Twilo nostalgia. Even though Spirit is there to kinda remind you of it - Twilo, it ain't. Twilo was not just a club it was an experience, mindset, vibe, almost a cult.
If you've never been to Twilo, you wouldn't understand. Being in Twilo was an organic experience. Everything nowdays is synthetic. I will never forget the nights when PvD was on in Twilo.
Way before DJ Mag polls mattered... Way before the cult of the DJ solidified and became "stand facing the dj, like at concert". I actually saw people... DANCING! Not jumping up and down, trying to get noticed by DJ, not sitting sh!tfaced on the floor without any sense of who is on - but actually being there for not just a rush of music but for the rush of the crowd. I can't recall any fights breaking out, I can't recall anything but positive moments. Sure, the bouncers were d!cks, getting in took long, but it was part of experience.
I will never forget PvD spinning in January of 2001 - was probably the highlight of my Twilo experience. I miss Twilo and no synthetic emulation, such as Crobar or Spirit will ever take its place. Shame that such a Mecca was lost. :( |

i'm in no way trying to say that twilo wasn't all about the music, but from what i heard, that is not true. |

The music today is not danceable. If you went to armin 2 weeks ago you would understand. |

towards the end, you are correct.
the steps and in front of them was nothing but people sitting there cracked out.
to me the "good twilo" was the sasha and digweed twilo in the late 90s, not the PVD Twilo that immediately followed. |

That's because everyone feels that they have to be front and center at the club. I stood closer to the back and went upstairs a lot and had plenty of room to dance! :) |

Carl Cox for $15
PVD (note worthy - Feb and November) >$25
Josh Wink and Steve Lawler for $10 (TEN FRIGGIN DOLLARS)
Richie Hawtin aka PLASTIKMAN
and literally EVERY S&D Party from mid 99-on ward
memorable characteristics about the club
-the ceiling dripped by the FREE WATER FOUNTAIN
-DJs in the bathroom
-bubble chairs upstairs outside of the twilo store
-PVD Angels down and front!
-middle of the dance floor under the ball the floor literally bent with the jumping crowd, i swear the floor was going to cave in! if you weren't jumping with the crowd, you'd be jumping with the floor cuz it bent under you!
-witnessing the bouncers kick out sections of bleachers "everyone in this section GET THE UP AND GET THE OUT" lol
-they move the DJ booth from the corner where the VIP was at the end of the era
personal memories
-getting kicked out from smoking in the speakers (sat in the speaker and smoked a blunt)
-hooked up with a 28yr old chick (i was 19) and her approach to me "my boyfriend is out of town and i want to have a good time" :conf: "OK USA"
-dropping my third hit and then finding out my cousin who drove me wanted to leave...ended up in some diner rolling my face off (for you flushing people - kanes diner on college pt blvd - steak and eggs) i was about to puke!
-back during this time, this was when all E was good E hahahaha
that's all I can think of now, but i do get goosebumps reminisicing!
TWILO WILL ALWAYS LIVE IN MY HEART! |

| ive heard nothing but good things, but in all fairness, i think every generation has that nostalgia... the 25+ y/o at Twilo were probably thinking to thsemvles they missed the early 90s and late 80s when "everything was so pure", and wen were older than 25, were probably gunna say "i miss those nights of Armin when" bla bla bla.... its always evolving, but aside from the clubs, club nights, and vibe evolving, so are the generations... the 17 year olds turning 18 soon are gunna get into this scene and think that THIS is when its at its peak, with 3000 people crowds and superstar DJs.... just my thoughts, although, youre right about Armin @ Spirit, i was just uncomfortable all night.... but then again, my whole rant doesnt take into account that ive never been to Twilo, so im going to give u guys the benefit of the doubt :) |

twilo was different...it got packed in there like REALLY PACKED but for some reason it never bothered anyone, it never was a problem that everyon was sweating and dancing...it was tolerable because the bass was so deep, you felt it in your chest and even in your throat...now thats the real "twilo thunder" that speaks out. it's never ever been matched soundwise through all my clubbing experiences.
i'd say the closest to twilo bass would be Club Love amplified by about 10x. |
