I knew how to ski & thought snowboarding would be the same. Its totally different. Instead of leaning right to left you lean front & back to turn. By lunch time I got the hang of it & wasnt falling down every run.

me and a mate are going for our first time in March in Andorra nr France :D

we've never touched boards before altho i've done some dry slope skiiing (this is almost identical. not)

we took a days learning at an indoor real-snow slope, in the UK. I'd TOTALLY recommend doing this as you'll get some REALLY valuable experience and save yourself a day of your holiday on the mountain. you learn not just about how to do it, but things like where the snow gets in your jacket, how many layers of socks you'll really need, to have more than one pair of gloves because they'll get wet after a few hours, etc.

basically it's all about having the board horizontal and the top edge only touching the slope, and sliding down either with your face looking down the hill, or with your face looking up the hill. Once you can control a slow slide each of these ways, you tilt the board lengthways down the hill slowly till you're moving forward diagonally, and alternate between face-down and arse-down the hill.

it's teh bo :wtf:

edit: a main diff between skiiing and snowboarding:

skiing you can't sit back and relax on the ski's, you need to crouch down forward 'onto' the hill. i generally had a prob with this cos i never wanted to lean headfirst hurtling down the hill.

snowboarding is all about your weight either side of the board so you're always ready to switch your weight to approach the next turn.

i prefer boarding.

I tried snowboarding, I totally sucked at it. The feeling of having both my feet strapped to a board is really awkward.
