Ultra trance?
View this Thread in Original format

I was browsing the full lineup, and i dont want to make a harsh and wrong, uninformed judgement, but are there less trance acts this year at Ultra?

dont get me wrong, im very much into other styles of dance music, especially breaks. And although I dont know much about any locals playing, is it right to say that this years Ultra will showcase less trance than before? Is that due to GG a week before? SInce the big jocks in the trance realm are not playing at Ultra, will the lack of trance be made up with locals? Are they any good?

I hope the replies to this arnt I HATE TRANCE, etc... i love it, trance and psy are my favorite. In my opinion they sold out becasue of a fantastic mainstage of trance last year. I mean, SOLD OUT first time. I am greatly dissapointed this year, and i already bought a ticket to miami from california for just 3 days to be at ultra. There is a huge lack of trance this time around. Its like Ultra picked off number one (PVD) and thought that was enough. GG knew why Ultra sold out last year, and took them. Hopefully tiesto will do carry on. I was hoping for more euro trance heads like gatecrasher, rank 1, push, etc. but NOPE!

exactly why i think it's bull that GG and Ultra are doing the 'if u spin here u can spin there' bull .

WTF.. PvD?

yet they have 2 breaks stages and 2 drum n bass stages.

:wtf:

i love how at work ppl come up and ask me if i'm going to Ultra. I just laugh in their face.

I've been going since I was 16 with the exception of Ultra 6... and i am MOOOOORE than happy to pass this one up

look Ultra did not pick off the #1 dj.. PVD has been closing the Ultra mainstage since it's very first year.

for most of the years, Ultra's main stage has been 90% trance dj's... It's just with the GG vs Ultra crap that's going on.. Dj's aren't allowed to spin at both festivals

as for more euro trance.. lol.. NE-VAAAAAAAAAA

i WISH!

quite suprised at that too although not into trance anymore I would've still gone over and checked some B&J, Marco V, PVD, etc type sets...the breaks & d&b getting 4 tents is a real turnoff so much so that I might bag WMC

I am saying they thought having him again was enough for people who like trance. Oakie doesnt count unless he brings orchestra since he has gone down the drain. With the addition of a euro trance person, i would end all complaints, just one more. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! I already bought my ticket :(

Even though Infected Mushroom will be at Ultra this year, I have written Ultra off my list. I haven't really looked into Global Gathering, I just know there's going to be a lot of Rock people there for the Rock acts. We need a TRANCE party, who's filling the void here?
tatgirl
Yes, Ultra shoulda pulled in other trance acts that they've never booked b4 to fill the trance void that we're left with this year. People in this thread have already listed some great options they coulda gone with.

woot someone is right there with me. Infected are my favorite, i am a psy/trane fan, and BOY is this lineup weak for us. Arnt we the ones that made the event sell out last year?

No doubt....I have been to UMF EVERY year, and was totally bumming that I couldn't make it this year. Then I saw the lineup and LMAO...guess I am not so bummed anymore. Throw in the GG lineup and I must say WTF!

I am all about different kinds of music, but come on... What has made Ultra sooooo special and the number 1 event in US history has been the mindset of the promoters to bring THE best Electronic Dance Music acts together in ONE event so you have 50,000+ of like minded partygoers going completely nutz to the tunes. Don't you think it will change the whole vibe of each event to have rockers running around and standing there listening to the thump, shtcch, thump, shtcch, of the EMD acts with blank stairs as they wait for a guitar gnash to bang their heads to? (I don't consider Prodigy EMD...I consider them Electronic Rock Music)

What we have now is too much of a mix in genres and crowd types that has diluted the EMD massive experience. Gawd...if only we could have nixed the GG and got a lineup that included AVB, Corsten, S&D, PVD, Oakie, Tiesto,...etc... all on the mainstage, similar to past lineups.

Sure, I can go to space and hear PVD and AVB, but the club experience is completely different from the open air arena vibe with thousands bouncing in unison to the beat for 8+ hours. Unfortuneately I live in Orlando, where EMD has died off (if you know of any clubs that consistently play trance-let me know- other than the handful of time David brings someone in per year). I relied on Ultra to get my nut off to keep me satisfied for the year. Looking at the lineup now, and I don't get a woody for 1.5 hrs of PVD with the Killers and Prodigy, and gawd knows what Oakie will be up too...

Am I just being a pessimist, or will I just have to go to Europe for a truly Epic EMD event?

Agree. Woudnt it be great to bring euro trance heads who rarely come down, like cosmic gate, push, etc.
LiquidX
I love trance music and all, and I agree that they've got a big gap to fill up in terms of this music, but its easy to agree from a knoledgeable and educated logic mind base that Push or any trance act will not be enough to fill or appeal to anyone, why?? because is more then likely that no-one would know them but us. The base here is atracted greatly by DJ's like Mauro or the most well known that come wihtin the year aka Tiesto, PvD.. and the obvious house ones. Even though Iam quite disappointed, I take in the positive within, giving me the chance to go out and explore and enjoy other Dj's that are never here and are sure to rock it, or DJ's that I havent seen in a big while.. lets look in for instance, Carl Cox, JunkiXL, Mauro Picotto, Darren Emerson, Hernan Cattaneo, Sander Klainenberg, SECOND SUN, and the Techno crew who looks promising to say the least, Marco Carola, MArco Baily, Chris Liebing, Mauro Picotto, to Eric Morillo and Pete Tong. Many of this DJ's rocked Ultra in the past, many are new that are bringing a fresh fresh new sound ... I agree that DJ's like MarcoV and others in the trance scene would make it more appealing. But im not regreting having bought my ticket, because there is quality within this other sounds as well:disbelief
