Agreed...it's just most important to appreciate the audience and the venue, regardless of genre. but as part of that audience, it helps to keep an open mind, and go out without set expectations of what will or what won't make you enjoy a set.
One thing that I will state, is that if you define techno by one particular sound (hard, minimal, whatever) - then you don't understand much about the genre! as I said, it is a genre that can be characterized by the huge range of music that falls into it!
Groundhog day is a classic! You don't know what you're talking about :p |
i agree about Groundhog day being classic...all im saying is that too much minimal can sometimes feel like you are listening to the same track over and over....its bad enough that i have suffered through David Morales penchant at dropping the same track 6 plus times in one set.I dont want to feel that way when i go see a GOOD dj:toothless |

Techno DJs now are increasingly incorporating records and sounds crossing all genres into any given set. |
I think this is personally why I have choosen techno over any other genre of music. It isn't one same sound all the time. There are so many other genres mixed into sets now as you have pointed out Sarah. It keeps things exciting and different. I think it brings me way more enjoyment.
Although I am not really one for the minimal yet, I am sure it is only a matter of time. It can be very groovy yes, but it also isn't something I can spend hours on end in a club listening to. I think it is better for chilling imo. |

I like my minimal techno ex. Kompakt Records but for me it lacks the energy of the harder banging stuff that I love. From the DJ's point of view I can understand that they want something different to play. I couldn't imagine going for a whole night of it though. Then again, friends tell me who've been to Circoloco in Ibiza that the whole club goes completely nuts to the minimal sounds they play:conf: I'll have to see it to believe it I guess. Adam Beyer has produced some tracks that are minimal yet hard, they're pretty cool too.
I see minimal being to techno what Progresive is to Trance. Progressives one genre that I just can't get into:conf: |

progressive is a word people throw around too loosly.
there is a huge diff between progressive house and progressive trance...
(the major one being that progressive house doesnt suck like its trance counterpart)honestly i dont think anything trance be really enjoyed
by anyone:
1.who isnt ed off 25 hits of e
2.anyone who actually knows how to dance using something other than hands or glowsticks
3.by anyone who listened to trance pre 2000, when there was still hope for this genre.
you guys can argue, but AVB is throwing more and more proggy house in his sets and Tostito is throwing out more techiness...if that doesnt mean the death knoll is near i dont know what does. |

I've always thought of progressive as a sort of a meeting point between house and trance. Although it seems to be more housey these days ex. Sasha's sound.
I do know one thing Progressive= alot of build-ups that go knowwhere lol
Yes your right about AVB's sets that's for sure. |

well when it comes to techno,i like new technoes more cause of the minimal beats and electro.
i personally don like the bangingbeats cause there are just like some running sounds that have no emotion and have no goal. and they always end up no where.
but the electro i think has put lots of feeling and enthusiasm to new techno. Even though the beats play a major role in techno
the major role but the electro has added up some feelin in the music so i think techno is better that past years.(for me):thepirate |
