Oakey losing his touch? (pg. 4)

just to drop my opinion into the batter, i like him. his essential mix, live from the rojan, was the first real mix i ever got. needless to say, i found it worth the 10 hour download. i mean, i can understand how some people would not like his new stuff, granted he plays a lot more "mainstream" if you will tunes. but i don't really listen to those all that much on my own, so its nice to hear a different area of trance. i mean, i respect the man. the goa mix, freaking awesome, flouro, while the same style as the goa mix, is a great album. i think the man has talent. in many ways i think he is up there with some of the greatest djs who have helped to put trance on the map. i think a lot of people don't agree with his step to more of a commercial aspect, like soundtracks or other such things. but who is to say that he isn't ready to move on? i know some people may not agree, but that is what i think. i guess you could call him an acquired taste, you either like it, or you don't. i stand with all those who do ;)

If you ask me (which you havent but owell) I think Paul Oakenfold was never really all that great. His mixing skills are ass first of all. He beat matches for about 4 beats, 8 at the most. Thats not skill. thats playing records. The stuff he produces is kind of cheesy and sounds to commercial.. Ive heard him train wreck numerous times, sometimes more than once during the same set.. If you ask me, he's way over rated and always has been.. Peace

no matter what anyone says about oakie i still acknowledge what he has done for the scene. and i still enjoy listening to him despite all that in criticism about him which is bull.

I dont agree. I think Paul Oakenfold has been the best world DJ since 99 when he was given the title.

I would like you all to think about what you said. Everyone is ENTITLED to an opinion, and for that reason - much respect to all of you :).

Oh yeah, and here's mine....

He made "the touch".

they're all bandwagoners that are just trying to sound like "underground" trance afficionados... "Oakie's gone commercial, he's sold out" blah blah... shut up. Man i'm sick of everyone always crying..... if you dont like him don't download his . that simple. 9/10ths of all the people who bash oakie here have never seen him live. I've seen him thrice the last year, every set was different, and kicked ass.

His mixing skills haven't gone down, and he's not getting worse. Don't be such pussies to say what it is you don't like: track selection.

Well, guess what? I am a tranceaddict. I like armin, tiesto, ferry, marco v, gielen, (some) judge, and DEFINITELY oakie.

Long live Oakie. :stongue: :stongue:

Whooho! I only saw Oakie once live (Gatecrasher @ NEC Oct '01)...and he was fecking wicked :) He put out a blinding set, mixing was great and the tracklist was a nice change too. Not just another "best trance of last 6 months" set like you get from Tiesto (god bless him tho, love him too) and such like. As I said I only saw him live once but as long as he keeps chucking out performances like that one whenever I go see him, he can join So Solid in his spare time if he wants for all I care.

Yeah why always flame him for sake, if it wasn't for people like Oakenfold you probably wouldn't have nice uplifting and melodic trance, also he's done loads in North America so stop being a group of whiners, you've got some great Djs out there like Sandra Collins and Max Graham, people like Oakenfold have made their life easier by expanding the audience to trance, actually heres a good idea you never all see Oakenfold again, then you'll start whineing 'Oh he never goe's here boo hoo ing hoo', realise the guys respected I'm not a massive Oakenfold fan but I certainly notice what pioneering he's done for electronic music, like when you haters sit in Ibiza with your beer or cocktails remember you wouldn't be there if it wasn't for HIM! the island would be full of just fisherman and hippies. ABT nice saying I think your right I think 9/10ths of these haters haven't seen him, and also I think most of us intelligent trance fans have been listening to trance at the time they were probably itching in their dads pants. If you've seen Oakenfold and he's not your cup of tea then fine post your views, but at least realise what a pioneer he's been for electronic music, like one of my mates who I go out clubbing with loads he's a massive Hard and Tech trance fan he loathes Oakenfold, but he still shows respect and knows what he's done for Trance. But I think some people are right I on here its a fashion to hate Oakenfold, also guys keep on slagging off Brit Djs its fun isn't it? Hearing a limey spin in your clubs and getting the spotlight. Also if its a DJ thing let us all stand in a club and see YOU spin in front of 1000s of people, actually spin in front of Gatecrasher at the NEC 13,000 people or gatecrasher Summer Sound system 40,000, Peace

This thread is so controversial I can't believe it's still here. (not the actual thread title, just some of the responses.)

It's on par with something like, "Paul van Dyk only plays Cheese".
Total .

NEWBIE?

granted, I may not post on these boards much, but I'd like to think I'm not a trance newbie. Regardless, Global Underground is a record label that's heavily promoted in the USA. It's not underground. My friend (who didn't know who Paul Van Dyk or what an Essential Mix was) owned the GU 007 CD before I did.

well isn't that good? considering the fact that GU007 is 1 of the best GU's ever made by Paul Oakenfold. GU007 is underground, most of the tunes are still unknowed by the majority of the people from that CD. Oakenfold back then didn't spin any commercial crap, maybe now, back then almost every tune was underground, remember, 99 was the year of trance and that's when everything started to get noticed :eyes: PVD has his own style of spinning, and back then i guess PVD wasn't that popular or something, it was Oakie's era :) GU is and always we be underground..it doesn't matter if their heavily promoted in USA? are they anyways? i mean no body bothers buying CD's from Digweed, Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, Sander Kleinenber, Steve Lawyer, Darren Emerson, Lee Burrigde, Danny Tenaglia,Sasha, Deep Dish and Seb Fontaine...considering the fact that most USA is being sucked on UPLIFTING DJ's, not progressive/house dj's  i know that people wont just go and buy a GU serie coz they dont know the DJ or what the tunes sound like  although i know a lot GU dj's come to the states now, but that doesn't mean anything u know...if 3000 people go and see Sander Kleinenberg, it doesn't mean that they'll start to like him..it'll be like a regular normal club night, just like in any other city...all of the GU dj's are highly underrated, expect Digweed or Sasha...Sasha is overrated right now, Digweed is still the same, in his top shape with his amazing dj skills, as he was from years ago :) they are popular in the states, but do the people in USA actually go and buy their CD's? i think not

Well it's hardly mainstream either. Regardless of how well the CD sells the point is that you're not going to hear that sort of music on your average dancefloor. Though I guess it depends on peoples definition of underground.

im not a big oakie fan but i don't hate him or anything... all i can say is im not a oakie fan but i love what he is doing for the trance industry in the US without oakie i think trance will never hit big in the US...i just wish there was a radio station that doesn't play HIP HOP or all that other music that im not into... and have them PLAY TRANCE! haha:toothless
