Why Vista Won't Suck (pg. 4)

plaxx, you make me laugh.

Macs are the most closed OS/hardware in the market.

Macs = black box.

You're only kidding yourself by talking about standards compliance wiht macs.
NebulousQ
One of the main reasons macs are more "stable" is becausing they hide all the "advanced" custimizations of the OS in horrible places with horrible menus and interfaces. They also force the user to use extensions and scripts to change and customize much of the OS and doing this generally makes OSX more unreliable that XP, however this change clearly depends on the programmer.

Changing key software and hardware setups, features, settings etc. is much more accessible and easier on PCs/Windows, thus allowing the user to screw things up. Also by making these key things more accessible many programmers can more easily create programs to expliot this accessibility, yet this is also easily countered by changing settings and thus is also dependant on the knowledge of the user.

And lastly, also most importantly, there are more games for Windows and many games that become ported to macs are filled with bugs becuase of the previous reason given.

Agreed.

MAC VS PS = MOST POINTLESS ARGUMENT EVER

It's 2nd place behind creationsm vs evolution... but for some people it's first.

I believe it's the standard because Mac was the first os that had a GUI but also some of the first publishing and creative software. I guess it just stuck with the industry with time.
Today there are a couple programs made by Apple for Mac Os exclusively that could justify sticking with the platform ( Logic Audio, Final Cut Pro, Motion etc ).

All in all to each his own!
Both platforms ( taking linux into account as well ) have pros and cons and in the end a lot of it is based on bias, misconception and a LOT of outdated information ( most often towards the Macs ).
I hear so many complaints from the M$'ser about problems with Windows ... blue screen of death, driver incompatibility, M$ always trying to suck money out of the customer with new Os's that are never completed; and yet they always hate Macs ( in a lot of cases because they are uterly clueless about them).
Quite complicated people to satisfy!!?!?

In the end it's your own damn personal decision.

I wish I could have Linux, Winblows and Mac box all in one.
By the way the coding scene for Mac has grown tons since X came out so I'm sure I'd have no problems if I made a full switch to Mac.

Also picking a computer platform is really ones personal decision. It's like picking a girlfriend.... under normal circumstances it usually doesn't involve outside opinions does it? :stongue:

yeah, it's called WinFS...

i just went to make sure, and they say it will not be builtin in Vista, but will be available as an add-on for it in 2007. actually, there is a beta version of that thing, that you can install for Windows XP.

it is a huge step forward, and it's built on top of ms sql server 2005 code, basically making your whole file system a big database (with all the perks: additional attributes, faster search, transactions, etc...)

wow, hello and welcome to at least 15 years ago, vista.

to all the mac fanboys, shut the up, this thread has nothing to do with macs, it's a discussion of vista.

meh. tell me what i can do with vista that i can't do with win2k right now and MAYBE i'll think of testing out beta2.

it's been in development since the mid-90s, yes, but it has only come to a usable stage just now. also, there is no equivalent of a file system extension like this in other OSes, afaik.

it does, if those opinions come from people who know their stuff:)

I wont be getting it anytime soon.

Only good thing about it is the unloading of the whole OS while you play a game.

But thats immediatly outweighed by the retarded DRM that Vista will carry.

imagine apple dropping its OSX for windows in the next five years.

Apple is a hardware company people, don't forget that ;)

This is the only thing so far that sounds like a serious improvement.

The use of flash memories to extend paging space is another great thing.

You could, if i understood well, plug in a compact flash card in your computer and vista would use it instead of the much slower hard disks for virtual memory.
