to be fair, non-edm concerts arent exactly cheap either (aside from indie rock or up and coming bands)...ppl pay well over 70-80 bucks to see big names like springsteen, billy joel, and well over 100-200 bucks to get good seats for madonna, U2, depeche mode and the rolling stones, and they dont really offer great advance tix prices or even free admission if you get there before a certain time...IMO its the whole corporate money making structure (clear channel for instance)that has capitalized on the concert scene and kept elevating costs...:whip:

also, i can see how a huge drop in attendance might force promoters to lower prices, but its pretty unlikely that'll happen cause as ppl have said, there are fans out there that wont think twice about shelling out the exorbitant prices..

they also maybe come round to a given city once a year, every two years. obviously they can charge that much because of how rarely they might tour or hit a city.

djs come to ny several times a year soooo i don't have to/want to feel inclined to pay so much to see a dj when they come through.

You realize that everyone you just listed is an industry legend, who have spent 20-40 years generating a fan base, evolving with the music, etc. They're not Armin van Buuren who just got his DJ celebrity status in the past 5-10 years, depending on when you want to say he achieved that status.

Most concerts of established non-legendary stars are available for $30-50, and that profit's split between multiple band members, not just 1 DJ. I mean, I just saw Prodigy for $35 (+ another $10 to those thieves at Ticketmaster) and they are more legendary and influential to the EDM scene than AvB.

ur completely right about the artists i named, and that profits for smaller acts are split btwn band members but ive heard of ppl paying as far up as 400 bucks to see some of these guys in a stadium sized atmosphere where they wouldnt even be very close to the stage...which is absolutely nuts imo...i guess cause i prefer smaller intimate atmospheres where u can get close the artist and they actually interact with the crowd more than just blurtin out ur city's name to get a cheer

and i suppose one "might" call tiesto, pvd and avb as being industry legends as religiontrance claims (which is very arguable)...but im pretty sure these dudes rely on other profits other than tix sales so i suppose it goes back to the fact that big events like Armin Only and TIC require such huge operating costs that they have to charge up the ass...maybe a boycott to those type of one-man diva-type events will open some of the organizers eyes

oh, and aside from the legendary, respected performers...there are loads of kids who shell out just as much money as we do to watch a bunch of garbage hip hop acts that are dubbed as being the new voice of hip-hop (for about 10 minutes)

I am that kind of an idiot that makes 2.5K a week and I really do not give a if it is 30, 50 100, or 500. All I care about is that I get to listen to the music I like. I am the kind of an idiot that paid 3000 x 2 to go to holland to see TIC and Armin Only. I am pretty sure there are plenty of idiots like me. From my point of view that's a good thing cause people like you dont get to come to the party :)

i had that same mentality once, until i found out how retarded i sounded cuz i was basically suckling on the DJs nutz, then i realized that the music scene/evolution will progress faster than i'm able to keep up and "attend shows". now that i think about it, the word "attend" a show/act makes it sound like its some official party that everyone must be at in order to hear the DJ drop the latest release of the latest track. IMHO that's suckling on dj's nuts. I go out to hear music, I appreciate DJs spinning it, but in no way shape or form would i sacrifice my budget to hear a DJ spin.

and FYI - Back when Twilo was thumping, you wouldn't have paid more than $45 but that accounted for 7-12hours of Sasha and Digweed. PVD Residency I paid at max $25.

The only reason that many people attend those events is because of the low supply. If they did events like that more than a few times a year, they couldn't sell 1/4 of those tix. Concerts like Madonna and those already mentioned sell that many tickets city to city.

Trance is more of an underground genre. It is not commercial music that every little girl listens to. Especially in the states not too many people listen to trance.

Tiesto is in Madame Tussauds in Amsterdam. That is how big he is there. I know very few people that ever head of him here in the us.
