What are you talking about?
It was you who made the comment about the US playing. I didn't even know they were playing. This wasn't no friendlies week.
I was just adding insult to injury with the ranking. |

Interesting things going on in the US.....since the US is playing Germany in their final(i think) tune up to the World Cup it looks like the US Media is using it to determine how popular football is here. Now you all know my stance on US football and how ty it is and how I hate it but this could be a vital week for US "soccer".
A friend of mine who interns at ESPN which covers US Internationals said that most of the media outlets will look at the ratings of this game with much interest. Why you ask?
Football is quite popular here in the US but with youths then after they are 16 they stop playing it, its more of a hobby here. The direction to hype up football here has been the US National team ever since their WC 02 performance and their rivalry with Mexico. Nothing has changed though which leads many marketing ppl who want the US to have a strong interest in football (big bucks) that they should focus on other national teams.
This has already started since most people know more about the English League than they do the "MLS"(our ty league). Most people think the next WC winner or Brazil even if they dont win it will be the big push on the US Soccer plan........
Found it very interesting you guys may not |
I don't know why they thought that game would be an indication of soccer's ratings potential in the US. The game was on at 2:30pm eastern time in the middle of the ing work week. |

| I couldn't watch the game but I read about it. I'm not surprised with the result either. The game was in Germany. Germany pretty much had their full squad. The US was missing a lot of key players due to injury and not having players from other European leagues besides the German league. 4-1 sounds about right. |

Since your friend interns at ESPN, do you mind him asking why in the hell would ESPN put the US first and then Germany second in the scoreboard? Host gets the first spot in the scoreboard, right? |

I think in the US it's backwards. In most sports in the US the home team on the scoreboard is either on the bottom (if it's top/bottom) or on the right (if it's left/right). |

| I don't know about top/bottom but the home team gets the left spot in the scoreboards in the left/right. |

Watch the bottom line on ESPN and ESPN 2. The home team in the scores is always on the right side. |

Yeah but I guaraningtee you that interest in the World Cup matches will far exceed interest in a friendly being played on a Wednesday in March. |

Ad boards? Come on! That's not a serious issue here.
This is the last comment about this. This game was just publicity for the US, getting the public ready for yet another boring season of MLS, which unfortunately starts this Saturday. |
