'BROKEBACK ABUSED SHEEP'

By CYNTHIA R. FAGEN

March 2, 2006 -- The makers of the gay cowboy flick "Brokeback Mountain" were too rough on sheep, an animal-rights group charged yesterday.

In a letter to director Ang Lee, The Humane Society also complained about the way the horses and elk were treated.

"The excessively rough handling of the sheep and horses leaves viewers questioning whether anyone was looking out for the safety of those animals," the letter said.

"And many also wonder how the filmmakers got the elk to lose its footing and crumple to the ground 'on cue' after being shot."

A spokesman for the producer of the Best Picture-nominated movie, Focus Features, had no immediate comment.

Some attention whore hasn't been getting enough of it lately:rolleyes:

to hell with the animals... my heart goes out to all the dudes that were forced to see over 2hrs of that hokey pokey with their girlfiends.

Poor animals. I was watching a Max-X the other day that was about animals...some of the videos were showing just plain old cruelty to animals. It was so sad.

My favorite video though was of this dude poking at an elephant with a stick and shoving it in his ear to get him to move...the elephant than knocked the guy out with his trunk! That elephant sure showed him who's boss!

were the sheep complaining of sore bums?

wow

some people just need to find those who aren't financially protected against such slander to go after.

If they had real balls, they would take on the meat packing industry and the fast food franchises instead - you'll find far more violations and acts of disgusting violence and treatment of animals in those brackets.

Read "Fast Food Nation" if you really want to know - you'll never want fast food again - 'specially if you've also watched "Super-Size Me".

isn't Pam Anderson and PETA already on that one?

MarkT
most studios are smart enough to allow an animal rights group of some sort to be on hand during all scenes involving animals...to prevent this exact type of criticism.

so was the Humane Society actually ON the set? Or are they making these allegations based only from watching the movie ("many wonder how...")

strange

(great film btw..Ang Lee rarely disappoints as a director...Ice Storm, Crouching Tiger..., Sense & Sensibility, Ride with the Devil, etc...haven't seen the Hulk though)

They're going after KFC for their treatment of the chicken ranching involved in their product - chickens kept in pens where they cannot move, where they are fed and fattened till they cannot move and slaughtered.

You don't want to know about the meatpacking industry....*shudder*
