Hi guys just wondering what the best prog to convery to MP3.

I've always used cool edit pro 2 i find the MP3 converter on there to be up to a very high standard.

Just wondering if anyone new of any amazing encoders?

If not i'll stick to cool edit!

Stick to Cool Edit. :)

I use dbPoweramp. A really easy and good program with wich you can extend with codecs for whatever filetype.
It costs some money though...

Old School Program

No way.

Best programs in combination are the following. Hands down. I've used all of those, and so far, these two are the fastest and easiest to configure.

To convert:

Electronic Cosmo Mpeg Suite

To tag:

analogX Tag Master

The only problem with tagmaster is the fact that it doens't tag with the most up-to-date ID3 format (AFAICT).

I could be wrong, however, but WMP uses a more modern format... only thing is I'm not sure if the tag info in WMP is saved as ID3 or if it's put in a separate file somewhere.

If someone could clarify that, that would be awesome.

Both free BTW ;).

If it doesn't use LAME, it's lame.

It will get you the best sound quality. Fact.

In combination with RazorLame as frontend, good combo.

If you like, I have a Blade 320, Blade 192, Lame 320, Lame 192, wav 16*48 and Flac 16*48 of the same song sitting on my drive.

I could set up a blind listening test for you and you could tell me which one Lame 320 is ;)

Seriously, it doesn't matter unless you encode under 192. All my songs are either 320 or lossless so it doesn't matter for me, and believe me, you're probably the only one of your friends that can tell the difference between MP3 and wav. I am of mine, that's for damn sure.

I never tried the Razor front end, so maybe that would be the best choice in terms of convenience. I'm sticking with Blade though.

Yup. That's my choice too.

There are differences between different encoders. It's not just random stuff I've made up - every time I've read an article somewhere testing different codecs LAME has always been chosen as the best. Plus it's completely free too.
