I'm Frustrated, Let's Vent Thread.

So I've relocated recently and as a result I'm trainning with a new group of guys for martial arts. Thier head instructor is significantly lower in rank than my last one and they have a grading coming up. Now, I don't normally care much for belts in martial arts, I care much more about the knowledge and have spent years with out upgrading belts in some styles. My issue/beef/reason for venting is that after being here for only a short period of time they asked me to go into a grading. I accepted it since after thinking about it I realized that it was long overdue and something I probably should have done awhile ago. So the grading is tomorrow morning and tonight we just held a mock grading. warmups went fine. Then the next thing I know I'm being asked to step forward with all of the brand new white belts to test for my yellow belt. I figured ok, no big deal they want me to go through all of the ranks to see how well I can hold up after doing every rank. fair enough. No, that wasn't the case. They told me that was fine and asked me to sit on the side for the rest of the class. I spoke with them afterwards and they have decided to grade me for my yellow belt... something I received over 12 years ago! I just came back from the world championships where I took double golds and a bronze and they want to grade me for a yellow belt! WTF!?! (I even used thier style of martial art at the world championships!)
So tomorrow morning I'm going to this grading. And if they actually hand me a yellow belt then I'm done with these guys permenantly.
PS nothing against anyone with a yellow belt. I know its the first step, but after over 12 years of trainning and world cup level competition it's kind of an insult for me.... ok not kind of. It is very insulting. I'm finding it pretty hard to keep any respect for this guy. oh yeah I also gave up my st. patty's day partying to get ready for this.
Other than this, life is pretty damn good, apart from missing hanging out with most of you guys and gals.

What's been your biggest thing to vent over recently?

I know TA is usually all happy vibes but sometimes little things get under your skin vent them freely here. anyone entering this thread be prepared apart from some expected humour this thread is not your average everything is amazing posting place.

no the rate I'm going aparently I won't even have a belt in a year, if these guys have thier way anyway. lol.
Congrats on the orange belt though. 2 months in, thats not too shaby. Just keep making sure that you're having fun first and foremost.

Misanthrope: the style that this club trains in is shotokan karate. I have over twelve years of both shotokan and chito-ro karate styles.
I also train in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu (about 5 years now) and a small bit of japanese jiu-jitsu on the side when I get a chance every now and then.

For the record when I started trainning with them I tried to show respect for their club by offering to put a white belt back on (I understand it is the exact same style but I wanted them to understand that I would relatively humble about it). They said that was not nessesary and that I should keep trainning at the level I had been at. Now come grading time the story changes.
I thought this grading was for my black. I mean after 12 years and lots of international competition I figured it was about time.

mmm.... been so long since I did martial arts.
I think I was on a different belt system though, (white > jr. red > sr. red > jr. green > sr. green > jr. blue > sr. blue > black?)

I was at Sr. Green when I left.

My instructor was awesome too... silver medalist at Panama Games.

edit: it was a Westernized version of the 'sash' system.

stupid people i hate stupid people.

i got this new guy at work and he pisses me off all the time. basiclly my boss told me that i can tell the new guys what to do so on and so forth, in other words i'm their boss and they know it. but for some reason this guy doesn't like to take orders from me and gives me attitude. this guy is in the army too and i thick that cuz he's in the army that he's better then me but in actual fact i'm more important then the bastard cuz i know how to build all the machines better then anyone there. this one time i told me that he forgot to cut out a hole on a stand so that the stepper motor can have room but it wasn't that big of a deal and he start giving me attitude saying well it to late now cuz i'm not cutting a hole with the plasma cutter with it painted. i really wanted to knock the guy out and i'm not a violent person.

there's nothing that i can do cuz we need all the help we can get cuz were extremely busy so i have to wait till his school starts back up but thats not till the summer. i f***ing hate that guy.

I hate my friends right now.

Went for a nap after class... woke up at 8, and everybody is gone.

NOBODY IS HERE!?!?!

So my St. Patty's day might be me + beer + video games now.

I too am curious what style of martial arts this is. Did you switch styles?

I switched From Goju Ryu Karate & Jiu Jitsu to Shotokan and the 8th Dan Konsho From Japan (yes this dude is the real deal with accent and all) Allowed me to join and keep my Blue even though I had not trained for 3 years consistently. My Old sensei (or Renshi in this case) friggin got lazy. I quit for a few years to get my life in order and I decide to go back to only find that he now lacks the decipline but also the basics. The only sweat I now broke there was from the warm up and that is IT! I was so dissapointed I advised him I was not returning and that with all do respect advised him to reconsider his new and "improved" curriculum. He was not too happy after all the years of high respect I showed him but I left for this guy who teaches straight Japanese with no nonsense, non caucasionaized martial arts.

nope. I never switched styles. I've been doing both shotokan and chito-ru the whole 12+ years. These current guys think a warm up is 25 jumping jacks. period. they are completly slack compared to what I am used to and now to have them tell me that I 'might' be able to pass to yellow belt... no thanks. I'll keep trainning on my own and pick it back up again when I move to Japan in a few months.
