| quote: | An Afghan man is being tried in a court in Kabul for his conversion from Islam to Christianity.
He could be sentenced to death for the act and his refusal to recant.
Mr Rahman, who is 41, was found to be carrying a Bible and was charged with rejecting Islam.
The prosecutor, Abdul Wasi, said he had offered to drop the charges if Mr Rahman would convert back to Islam, but he had refused to do so.
Mr Wasi said therefore that Mr Rahman must get the death penalty. |
Gets the death penalty for rejecting a religion. Might want to tell them the dark ages are long gone. |

| Another good story that makes me believe further that many of those in the Middle East don't want the American and European freedom that we're trying to push on them. |

| Well I suppose its worth noting that this man is on trial. He'd probably have just been killed when the Taliban was in charge. |

Coming from us who've lived in countries that are under 500 years old.
Suprise boys, there are countries on this earth that are FAR older, they havent changed for thousands of years, we have to let them evolve at their own pace, the middle east is living it's middle age right now, religion is coming into question etc... Lots of religious insecurity etc etc, stuff like this wont be happening in 100 years time I dont think, I also think that some westerners dont realize how long it took for US to evolve socially... And we did it VERY QUICKLY at that, cant expect everyone to be the same, that's unrealistic. |

| ^^ I don't see how that relevant. This is simply f***ek up, it shouldn't be happening at all, anywhere in this day and age. |

Sometimes I just don't understand the middle east.
Will it kill them to be tolerant? |

Um, I don't see how that's relevant. I live in a country that's some 1300 years old and I still share the view of most people on this board.

The middle east is way more backwards-oriented now than it was 50 years ago. |
