Well... let's see - I can take my MP3 player to meetings and record conversations with a built in or external microphone - saving me from writing. I can also plug it into my mixer and record optical quality jamming session with nothing more than 1 cable. I can then connect it to any computer with USB connection and STANDARD USB cable and use it as external hard drive, 40GB in size. I don't have to use iTunes that messes up my MP3 libraries and trashes my drive. I don't have to buy aftermarket software to extract my music from my ipod... oh, and worst come to worst... and if that's not enough - there's a community devoted to hacking irivier mp3 players to provide more functionality. Interface on my player does not require me to look at the screen to navigate it, change EQ settings or fast forward/reverse - unlike iPod.
The only thing that I don't like about it is that you can't fast forward on it like on iPod - scroll to the section where you want. That's the only gripe, coz I listen to long sets and fast forwarding is not... that fast. ;)
Otherwise, it's very practical, durable, and sleek.

| oH, and it's great for recording at concerts. I can sneak in my MP3 player with a good external mic and record a bootleg of just about any party. Try that with your iPooped. |

aparently it's the cool thing to do, do bag on apple.
however, my experiance with apple has been nothing short of spectacular.
i've had 3 i pods (first gen, mini, and a newish 20 gig)
all worked perfectly. i got the mini cause i wanted something smaller than my first gen. the first gen worked flawlessly for 5 years, with decent batery life still (4+ hours)
and i gave my mini to my wife and bought a 20 gig. absolutely no problems what so ever. |

but what are we arguing about here? It's a device - if it does what its supposed to and you're happy - great. My experience with apple has been nothing short of nightmarish, so, to each his own. I hate it - you love it, whatever.. there are better arguments to have than over some meaningless device.
