Thats because in the UK we pay about 10 times more than you do for gas!

Awww, poor kids... maybe you should invest in the war in the middle east to make those gas prices go down. ;) :p

We pay 1.60 quid per gallon in NYC, which is on the higher end of the cost, if you travel outside of the city its cheaper.

its not the cost of buying gas from the middle east, its the UK government putting tax on fuel at a rate of just over 80%!!

so for every £1 i put in my tank, 82p of it is tax!

tell me about it . . and thats not the only tax we pay to drive our cars , we also have to pay road tax, an annual fee for each car we own to be allowd to have it on the public highway, the amount of tax varies according to engine size, the larger the engine, the more tax you pay, so this is why small cars are more popular here and the rest of europe is not that different from the UK, each have thier own way of making you pay to drive.

oh and on a last note about how our government suck, they are thinking of introducing a pay as you go system for driving on the roads at a varied rate for the time of day, so if you drive at 9am in the morning its £1 a mile where as at 3am in the morning it would be 6p a mile.
to achieve this, we would all have to have gps tracking systems fitted to our cars again at our cost and oooo there is something the government does not make any noise about, with gps tracking, they can also check how fast we are going, we speed and its tracked, so fines for speeding can be dished out at the same time.

I am moving to the USA lol

it does make me wonder why so many ppl want to live here lol

the last time fuel tax went up, a group of ppl did try to protest against it, truckers organised a rolling road block on the main motorway (freeway) around London, they got stopped by the police before it happened, then they tried to blockade fuel depots and all that caused was anger at them because ppl could not buy gas so it fizzled out and we let the government stamp all over us again

Sunsnail
thats terrible

Don't forget that in the USA, Federal tax dollars go to subsidize gasoline so that the out of pocket cost is cheaper. Our refineries get a decent deal on the crude but nothing immaculate; we just pay our costs in a different way.

Our taxes on fuel are pretty high too, though nothing like that. I think here in Ohio, we pay about 60 cents per gallon in taxes
