Quite difficult to do anything special other than mix "in key" with stuff like that. So called "dead" mixing (IE intro's & outro's) seems to be the way I usualy go until I go for more Techier Trance, that's when you can start pulling out the tricks! :)
Besides with that kind of Trance it should flow & be smooth anyway |

Look - these tracks have very similar intro and outro structure between them so yes, they are predictable. Or are you seriously telling me they are odd somehow and therefore need to be mixed differently? |

I find it best to wait till the breakdown of one tune, then bring in the next tune's breakdown over the current tunes one.
then you dont have to do a beat mix!
armin does this all the time so does van dky, its so simple so enjoy it. also sounds pro x 100 |

You might not like armin or PVD music, but saying that they can't beatmatch it's an ignorant statement. |

I laughed.. even though i enjoy listening to most of the stuff those dj's play.
Secondly, i think mystery's post was spot on.
There's no other way really then bring a tune in towards the end, the lows can be cut away for a while and then if you want to keep the tempo up a bit make sure you introduce the second tune at a nice high energy part.. all depends on what kind of a mix you're looking for, smooth and slow or keep the tempo up by bringing in a harder beat etc.. (sounds like i'm talking about bringing techno in..)
I do love it when the tune coming in has a nice hard thump to it.. :D lol

I now both PVD and AVB can mix. I think Van is dutch for Mixer.
LOL, or not.
Anyways, as said already. It's hard to be creative when mixing trance, since its based on flow and progression, cutting and scratching all over the shop or over use of effects sounds crap, and very rarely (if ever) works.
Unless you know the tunes really well and you know that 2 particular tracks were born for each other. Then you can ix out early, but since most trance tunes are quite busy until the very end, it has a strong tendancy to go side real quick.
In Sasha's trancy days, everyone raved about his mixing skill.
Look at the track times and listen to the CD's, the reasion why it's tight is cause he mixes at the very end of the tunes into tracks that go very well together.
(I know the later N.E. CD's were mixed digitally too btw :P) |
