Not using the crossfader?

I've heard ppl that do their mixes without the crossfader. The only thing they use is the volume controllers?

How common is this and is it any good?

I can't survive without my crossfader

well.. as far as i've heard (dont have my equipment yet so i can't tell ya) most people use the volume faders because they have more control over their mix, im planning to use my volume faders 2, just leave my cross fader standing in the middle, probably use it 4 quick mixes.. or just other mixes such as pop/rap mixing (parties)

that what i was thinking just before
i bought my equipment and then i saw that it's much more
easy to use the cross fader in the begining it's a little bit hard but thrn it's much more easy

well in theory its the same thing.. i don't see why someone would do that instead of the cross fader, i use both the cross fader and the volume controls..

when i get my equip i will try both

Most large night clubs (in the Boston/New York area at least) use Urei or Rane rotary mixers... and they almost always do not have crossfaders.

Something to keep in mind...

When I started I always used my Crossfader and then after watching a clip of Armin from EAU I saw him behind a big console mixer without a crossfader and tried just using my volume controls. I like it alot more, simply because when using the crossfader too, sometimes you need more hands than you have if you are using all 3 controls at the same time. Using just the volume controls you have total control to feel it and bring it in easily.

I would advise you to try it and see if you like it.

yea...i NEVER use the crossfader..i just use the channel faders and leave the x-fader in the middle the whole time..reason is because you get soo much more control with the channel faders that theres no need for a x-fader. just my 2 cents :)

i know a guy that doesnt use that crossfader...he just uses the volume..and he does a good job

well you see heres the ups and downs.

up of crossfader - one handed, quick and easy. but in all honest its not much harder to use one hand and sim up one vol and down another vol, just takes a little work... but all and all crossfader is fine if you want to do a quick transition

down of crossfader - most curves amplify the overall signal when its in the middle. I personally hate this.. if i do a slow transition i want it to be really backround, i consider i did a good job when my friends ask if its the same song playing. see with the vol control u can up one and down another a little, or up and whatever u want. it just gives you FULL control over everything, which when it comes to a progressive mix it really matters. if you like hearing the tiesto style mix (which i like at times), where you hear both beats hittin hard and its just a loud thump thump, then cross fader is cool. if u like those mixes where it transists amazingly, then use the volume.

use em both man
know everything, be a god

I personally use all options available, Crossfader, Volume Control & EQ knobs, why limit yourself to only one?

I keep the crossfader in the middle and just use volume faders. Its much smoother imo. I just get used to it.
