how many patches do you use?

on average, about how many different instruments go into one of your mixes? how many of them are percussion and sound FX?

this is a big problem for me, as i can only get a few sounding just the way i want before the need comes to "bounce" them. what im looking for is a "full" sound thats not "crowded". maybe all that i need is some good strings/sweeps?

i still have alot to learn about composition, but i think i have the basics down, and it seems like i dont use enough instruments to "fill" it up, or enough to build up to a decent sounding break.

i havent even gotten to the stage where automation and mastering finish off a track, as i cant make it sound any better if i dont have it right to begin with!:whip:

You can squeeze a lot of juice out of an old computer. It just requires a little more planning and a lot more bouncing :)

I actually find that I'm more creative using an old rustbucket pc. It makes me think a lot more carefully about each element in a track, and whether it contributes to the track or is just 'noise'.

Urgh - I just counted the amount of tracks me & Mart have used in our latest (unfinished) tune so far and the count is 47. Neither of us can play it without maxing out the CPU as it is, so only heaven knows what it'll be like when finished.

Yes, a lot of bouncing has to be done...

*sigh*

A lot of bouncing.

I learned that too late. Even though my computer is quite the power-house. You still have to bounce. PLAN FOR BOUNCING or you will be sorry when you're poor CPU meter maxes out and your audio sputters like a satantic AM radio tuner-dial.

i think its something called fx frezze or something and it acts as a big buffer for bouncing audio which cant be processed as it is.

i think:conf:

Bouncing is quite a simple concept.

When you have a synth playing it's using up your cpu power. You have a problem when you have too many synths and too little cpu. If you render a synth channel to audio, and then mute the synth and play back the rendered audio instead, then less cpu is used.

The logic behind this is straightforward, the pc only has to stream an audio file from hard-disk, instead of doing all the synth calculations.

Using this technique you can pack in a lot more softsynths and effects into a track, than you could otherwise. Only problem is you can't tweak bounced audio!

fxfreeze makes bouncing a doddle. Cubase has the facility built in, and FL allows you to render a channel to audio, and then automatically insert it as an audioclip.

wait a minute, Cubase has it built in?

does that mean it does it for you automaticly?

It has the freeze function which works way better and faster in Cubase SX 3 than in SX 2. It bascially bounces a track for you and unloads it. I personally just bounce almost everything. Then at the very end, I may freeze a few tracks here or there.

Where in Fl can i find this? ill be looking soon, but asked just in case i cant find it :D

With all the bouncing stuff, your track must be like 99% done in trance or what? Cause a patch gets filtered and modulated all the time.
