Im trying to do some research on Chechnya but dont really have much of an idea where to start. Ive just learned of the election of Ramzan Kadyrov, but I dont understand his stance or why that is significant on Chechen politics. Can some1 summarize the significance of Chechnya in general or its relation w Russia?

Thanks to any1 who can help out.

whoe where to start. well first off alot of things that have to do with chechnya aren't published because they are local and regional bits and pieces that definatly aren't published by state controlled Russian media and outside media outlets don't really bother.

i'm sure people around you have talked about chechnya. there's no reason to really NOT let them go. it's just that russians do thinks without a reason just to do something for the sake of doing it. some people think that they are not letting go cause of resources, some say it's because if they let them go, others will rise up too.

who knows.

I can tell you one thing. Don't get anything from the media, because the Chechens are terrorists! And any terrorist is bad!

hahahhah... so true.

Chechnya has basically been brutilized by the russian military like never before. They have done just about the same damage, if not more, as the Israeli Death Forces have to the palestinians.

I well tell you why the Russians are holding onto Chechnya as they are. The Russians believe their bordor stops at the Caucasus so if they were to let this Muslim state go and then the surrounding states which are also Muslim would want to seek independence as well from Russia. The Russians are being brutal in order to not let the Chechens or anyone in the surrounding states be independent from Russia.

good job paraphrasing what i've already said. and no, the main interest in the russian dictatorship is power and money, even though the two are synonymous. chechnya has pipes running through it as well as lots of oil the corner stone of the totalatarian government's income.

Read up on conflict in Daghestan in the late 1990's, when Chechens tried to invade and Daghestani gov ran to Russia for help.

right russian newspapers...from the media...which is state owned. Surely they will have a (or close to) a bias view.
