| people call me stupid for spending so much and are surprised on where i found all the money but honesly what else can i do with the money i earn. I like djing so ill spend my money on some decent equipment. right now i have spent over 1500 dollars on records and 500 for my cd player 300 for cartridges 1000 for turntables and 300 for mixer. and i must say that i have no regrets. |

| as much as it might sound, think of it in terms of buying a car, or a slightly nicer car. I think we get a far better return for our $2000, 5000 or whatever, than a sunroof on your car. |

For my family, i don't tell them. I make my own money i don't need their permission for anything. My friends, they can't belive it but what can they say? I mean they way i see it, compared to most people i make out like a bandit! Most people waste their money on consumable vs durables. by that i mean like beer, liquour, things that are gone tomorrow. I hardly drink so i have my money there. I remember at my old job, everybody got paid the same, but i always had the nicest stuff. Everybody thought i maxed out my credit cards. My response..."What credit cards?" They would run up a $300 tab in one night for 2 people, a night being a wednesday! That's almost a EFX-500 for me!
One thing i do have to cut down though are my trips. I fly. Alot. This year i have coachella, the loveparade, and that is it! hopefully. I do need to start thinking about the future so i need to save more and invest a bit. I mean what good is being dead if you have no money to be buried with you? |

my dad once made the reference:
"Disco died out, don't you worry the same might happen to trance?"
while there has been times i wondered the same, it's one of the only things i find truly enjoyable.
the most common comments i get go along the lines of:
"Techno is gay (or for gay people)"
"Learn to play a real instrument"
i'm just gonna keep going until it does die out, if ever. more records, a nice PA, producing equipment. why not? |

| if turntables aren't a real instrument then ask that person to beat match for you and get a crowd dancing. and btw djing well requires knowledge on the structure of songs and i bet any good dj knows as much about musical theory than any other musician. btw disco died yet people still listen to it and appreciate it. also i thought disco evolved into funky house, or maybe i am just ignorant. |

Yeah i totally agree. some people think they know it all or are above such "simple things" (yet they've probably never laid hands on some decks).
as for disco evolving, yeah i can agree with that, there's still plenty of new age disco records coming out. house music was basically born out of disco. |

I recently got into DJing and love it. All my life I have been into music.
From 6 years of Cello and Piano, to being a bass player in a metal band to being a bass player in a Russian rock band, to little producing now on to DJing.
What kills me is the ignorance of people who say Techno music does not take talent to make. In USA most people I know call music with constant beat Techno music. Even my old High School teacher who is a pretty smart guy claimed that electronic music is empty and does not take soul to make and everyone can do it on the computer. My abilities to play cello, piano, guitar, bass etc did not come any harder then trying to produce. I mess around in FL Studio right now and I find it very hard to make something that sounds even remotely good.
Back to original topic, its not of their business what I do etc. Its better then blowing my money away on cigaretts(I quit 5 months ago) and alchohol. =) |
