I watched King Kong last night - Peter Jackson's creative style is very muh seen in this film.
When I put on the movie, I was half expecting to trot around my room and finish up some chores while the movie was playing with the same old King Kong plot and just some wicked effects...
What I found was a 3 hr movie where I couldn't take my eyes from the tv and I found myself pausing it when the phone would ring!
Maybe it is my extra sensitivity to creatures in the monkey family... but I have not cried this hard since the Green Mile... good thing I was alone...
I think I will be purchasing this movie...
Why wouldn't they leave him alone...?

Monkies are my favourite animal too, and I think that's why I cried so hard. My boyfriend wanted to watch it and I was like meh whatever, I'll just fall alseep. I ened up with my eyes litterally glued opened, until I started crying of course. I cried right from the part when Kong sees Anne in NYC. I was done right from then on.

I loved this movie as well..
i saw it in the theatre and i had to hold off a bathroom break for the entire film just because i couldn't leave...
i thought the CGI was absolutely amazing on Kong... and whoever did the movements for him it was like to the T...
i got so teary eyeed during this movie because of the emotion in his face it was just awful...
i'm telling you.. i could watch an entire family get blown up in movies... but if i see and animal get hurt.. its like water works

I really liked the movie but I think they could have got the same messages across in the movie without having take over 3 hrs.

It's kinda sad how technology has changed our society into one that looks mostly for instant-gratification. If you wanted a movie that just spits out the story as quickly as possible why would you go see a Peter Jackson film? He's one of the few directors who actually LOVES the story enough to do it justice. If you just wanted to see the story of King Kong you could've rented either the 1933 or 1976 version and been done in 1.5-2 hours. Every other medium we scream for 'encores' yet we can't wait to get out of the movie theatre.
Dunno about you guys, but when I pay good money to see or rent a movie, I'm doing it for myself, because I want to enjoy the story - be drawn into it and enter that state of mind called 'willing suspension of disbelief', not because I need to see the latest flick and be able to chat about the girl or the effects around the water cooler the next day.
Have any of you ever come out of the club saying "yea I loved that set, but man he totally could've just cut out 4-5 tracks I didn't enjoy as much as the others and we'd be home an hour earlier?!?"
To me it's not just about the story - but the storytelling aspect as well. Peter Jackson is a storyteller par excellence - every detail of every scene is perfect. It's what sets his films apart from others. If you just want to blow a couple hours without thinking, don't waste your money on a Peter Jackson film that deserves more.
