i would never pursue this though due to the long hours and all the rejects who usually work for you. i couldn't deal w/ people not showing up, etc... but i think i would do a damn good job of running a nice restaurant. |
And the fact that this job appears to go nowhere? Unless you open your own place. |

how does it go nowhere? if you are the GM at a steakhouse where the average dinner is $40 or more, you easily bank doing that. it's a really tough job and very demanding. you get crazy bonuses though and all that and easily can make a little under 100k depending on the restaurant. yea, owning your own place might be the ultimate goal, but not for everyone. the GM at the restaurant i worked at was married to another GM of a fairly nice place (not as nice as the one i worked at though) and they had a sweet house in a nice neighborhood and she drove a lexus and had really nice clothes...obviously they were doing well together. |

If I was working a job as demanding as that seems, I'd hope my salary would plateau a little higher than 100K. Maybe I'm greedy. |

well to be honest, that restaurant i worked at was nice, but it wasn't like a 5 star restaurant. although i've eaten at 5 star restaurants, and they still didn't compare to the menu and/or service of J.'s ...it's my favorite restaurant ever.
www.jalexanders.com see if one is near you!
but my point was that i'm sure some GM's at really nice restaurants make over 100k a year... |

Yeah, I def see your point. FOr me personally, If i was ever going to have to work in a non "art-related" job, I would hope the sky would be the limit in terms of moving up in the company- if you know what I mean. If I worked a job related to one of my passions, then I would settle for much less dough. If I can't do what I want to do for a decent wage, then I want to have the possibility of earning a LOT (over a period of time of course.. you have to start somewhere) with a "regular" job.
Oh and no locations close to me... I think the closest one to me is the one nearest you.
Tis a good thing this city is lousy with nice restaurants! |

You're right. I worked in a steak house before too and for damn sure the managers there had it good. :whip: |

Probably a thousand times more complex and difficult than either of us think. Looks simple and fun- is really a lot of training and experience, along with a deep understanding of sound. Deep as in textbook, scientific knowledge, rather than "Dude.. it sounds so.. good!" knowledge.:p |
