And then marwan or whatever his name was just jumps... wtf.

the nuke from S2?? yeah it wasnt so hot. but that was back in 2002. everything else (other than kim and cougar lol) was ace. Mason dying, CTU under attack, Nina, etc

and yeah marwan was a bad guy. he kept getting away. it was almost cartoonish. but the ending with Jack leaving really saved the season. other than that...

Studies are showing that people are spending less and less time in front of the TV and more time with other media - particularly the Internet. Heres one of them.

We're downloading movies & mp3s, shopping online, talking on IM, and not watching reruns of That 70s Show. Must See TV is no longer a must-see.

Broadcast television (what shows like 24 & Prison Break are on) also has to compete with cable & satellite.

In order to bring back viewers, and keep them, broadcast has no choice but to create these theatrical production, hour long shows, that grab your attention and doesn't let go.

Think about 24, its a prime example. The whole premise is centered around immediacy. Things are happening in real time, right now, and the clock is ticking. If you blink, you could miss out on some of the fun. You also have to keep up with the story line, it requires you to know what happened in the last episode.

This is also an example of how competition is good for the consumer. Not only do these new shows command your attention, they're also done rather well. The writing is above average, as are the story lines, plots, acting, and actors. If you look closely, you'll notice an abundant amount of actors you know from the movie screens. Since when were actors jumping from movies to television, it used to be the other way around! Well, since FOX was loosing ratings with traditional shows and finally willing to pay Kiefer's salary - and I can assure you, someone like him does not come cheap.

In a way. Don't think of it as a culture where everyone has an attention deficit. Its just that there are so many things out there these days that want our attention, any one of them in particular needs to try extra hard in order to get it.

you notice how the frame is changing every 3 seconds on mtv and shows like 24? why? because tv execs know their audience is so a.d.d affected that they'll lose interest if the screen stays still any longer than that. sad story, but true.

um no. thats so they can tell you whats happening with other characters. how do you expect them to connect 4 on going plots in one hour in real time without using split screens? the show is far more complicated than you may think. it has its flaws but its one of the smarter shows and certainly one of the more innovative ones.

rofl, do you even understand what i said????? i'm just telling you it's been the network's policy to keep the screen changing every 3 seconds because of the realization that the target audience is a.d.d-prone.

I DIDN'T say they change scenes every 3 seconds, do you even watch the show? :wtf: it's not 3 seconds of drama at ctu, then 3 seconds of shootout, then 3 seconds of jack chasing someone. it's camera angles constantly changing so the audience doesn't get bored.

Seriously, TV goes SO fast, especially commercials.

If someone from the 1700's was brought to 2006 just to watch TV I think he/she would die just from their brain processing too fast. Of course, I'm not being serious, but I think they would curl into the fetal position and cry.

its a fast paced show set in real time. things have to move fast. do you know how much story they have to fit in the span of an hour?? if they did it any other way it would be boring and not because the audience is a.d.d prone but because they wouldnt make much progress. the camera angles add to the intensity.

watch the Bourne Supremacy/Identity. both intelligent films with basically the same camerca maneuvers. its set up the way it is to make you feel like youre in the midst of it. it heightens the experience if done right. if not then it just looks like garbage. but 24 does it greatly, imo.

right well that was just an observation not an argument. my main contention with 24 is its predictable, formulaic plot. the show is entertaining but none of the plot twists caught me by surprise because they were all hinted at too much by the writers who are catering to the slow demographic i guess, nor does the show really strike any emotion or feeling in me after i watch it... well maybe frustration towards the administrative incompetence, which seems to be the backbone of the show, but that's about it. it's just a slideshow of action, violence, incompetence and deceit. in that sense it serves it's purpose, but like i said... lost and the shield are LEAPS AND BOUNDS superior shows

oh please. so youre smarter than just about everyone that watches this show then? you saw President Logan being the mastermind behind the whole terrorist plot, you knew Nina was a traitor, you predicted Mason would give his life to save Jacks, you knew Tony was going to die, etc. Give me a break. This show has some of the best twists/cliffhangers and most of them are instrumental to the story (with the exception of Tony's death).

if you can honestly tell me you felt nothing when you saw Edgar die or when Jack shot Chapelle then you either havent been watching since S1 or youre simply hopeless. if theres one thing 24 is good at its invoking emotion in its viewers. granted theyve gone a little too far this season with the whole mass murder of all the main characters deal but they still find ways to make you feel for the characters.

and things have to be hinted towards because if they weren't many people would assume that the writers pulled the twists out of their asses at the last second to salvage the credibility of the show. its good writing and youre bound to see through it sometimes but unless youre the oracle I can garuntee you wont predict 90% of the twists in this show.

I can't believe you guys are arguing over a T.V. show.
