From what I have heard, there will be a parade but it won't be called Love Parade.

THERE WILL BE A PARADE...

Greetings from the crew that brought you Love Parade San Francisco '04 and '05!

This is an update on what's been happening at Love HQ in our efforts to bring America's premiere electronic music event back to the streets of San Francisco.

We are proud to announce the Love will return Fall, 2006!
Once again we'll be hosting the city's, country's and world's best electronic music DJ's and music producers with a full on free parade down the heart of San Francisco, festival at the Civic Center plaza, take over of City Hall, and more pre-parties, after parties, and after-after parties this side of WMC.

This parade and festival will not bear the name 'Love Parade' this year, as Love Parade Berlin, who we were licensed through the previous 2 years, did not renew -any- of their world wide licenses not already under contract so they could focus on their own event this July, the first Love Parade Berlin in 2 years. We all remain on great terms and wish each other amazing events!

Left with the decision of what to do, the same team that organized previous SF LP events felt we couldn't let the momentum, work and excitement of our first 2 amazingly successful turn outs take a year off to wait and see what happens with Berlin next year. We're excited to bring the same concept that makes Love Parade so amazing, and make it our own, and take it up a notch with a fresh start building on past efforts.

An outdoor all day parade and festival showcasing electronic dance music, and the wonderful culture that surrounds it, a culture that values a lot of things the world needs right now - unity, friendliness, respect, tolerance, spirit, cooperation, and fun. You're invited once again to make that shine, so get ready for more love!
The original founder of Love Parade Berlin, Dr. Motte told us: "I would be happy to work close and direct together with you to keep the spirit of loveparade alive beyond all borders."

Sounds like a plan! We'll be hearing more from Dr. Motte....
Now moving ahead.... very special thanks again to all who supported our benefits in January and February. Though our basically equivalent event is not called 'Love Parade' this year, your support was not and will not be in vain. The same organization has the same bills to pay to the city, and still has them to pay to secure our permits for this year. At the time we threw them we had not heard Berlin was not renewing any LP licenses, thus they were at that time 'Love Parade' benefits. As you may recall, the increased costs associated with the Market St. / Civic Center event, coupled with not enough people donating at the festival gates - a key component of how we cover our expenses, resulted in us ending the event in the red. We've corrected those snags in this year's plan, but are hoping for your support one more time before the love returns.

Friday, May 12th, the creators of Love Parade 04 and 05 bring you:
True Love Never Dies: a benefit event for the Love event 2006.
Presented by Spundae, Mezzanine, Flirty Flirty, Satellite SF, Wink, and Drive. Mezzanine has donated their amazing club and sound system for another eclectic night of world class music featuring.

If you have questions feel free to reply to this e mail.
We're excited to co-create more love with you all, thanks for your support!

If they go an attach it to something with a name similar to another existing party (see: Summer Music Conference), then I have no doubt that it will draw a large crowd. They could also advertise it as, "The party formerly known as..." and such.

No Love Lost Between San Francisco and Berlin
http://www.internetdj.com/article.php?storyid=764

July 15th 2006 marks the homecoming of Love Parade to Berlin Germany. So is there really any need for another one in SF? German HQ doesnt seem to think so.

Now that the Love Parade is back on in its rightful home of Berlin Germany, there really isn't much need for a festival of the same name over in San Francisco. The rumor is that the San Francisco organizers did not capitalize on the name sake as best as they could have, reporting dismal numbers and not capturing some key performance figures.

In our exclusive interview with Paul Van Dyk late last year, Paul told us directly why he pulled out of Love Parade San Francisco, "There is only one story here. In order to do a public event like this, there has to be insurance in case something happens. Apparently there were some problems with the organizers of the Love Parade with getting the right insurance for the actual truck to be secure for the DJs. We are all very lucky that nothing happened, but if something bad did happen there wouldn't have been any insurance for the person that might have been hurt. This is why we pulled out. Of course, if the float didn't drive up and down the street, I wouldn't have been able to perform on the float!"

Despite their efforts the San Francisco edition of Love Parade has been permanently dissolved with no mention of a return in the near future. Organizers who licensed the name from the German creators had sent out a email last week claiming that their license was taken away due to concentration on the events return to Berlin. However, there was some speculation by individuals within the organization that the numbers posted in San Francisco were not all that they appeared. At this time there is no evidence to support that this was the reason why the license was revoked.

Two additional things:

1. The event will go off with major talent as before. We have spoken to top talent arround the world and they asserted that they would continue to support the event. We see this as a really exciting oportunity to create a better event in some ways that is American based! Please help us build on our momentum to show the world what America and San Francisco are capable of. You can start by spreading the word that the event is ON!!!!

2. I want to respond to the completely inaccurate "exclusive interview" regarding PVD below. However wrote has no journalistic integrety. The claim about insurance is utter crap that the writer pulled out of their ass. PVD failed to play due to contractual issues between his manager and the venue that booked him. Ultimately, it came down to the fact that the venue demanded that PVD not preform because the owner feared that people would not buy the expensive tickets after seeing PVD for free earlier that day. So much for the "exclusive interview." Check your facts! Doubtless your conversations with PVD only exist in you skewed internal reality.

The Inaccurate Article:

Additionally, we have not "permanently dissolved" This person is a complete fake!

The "numbers" had nothing to do with it. It came down to the fact that Berlin was acquired by a company (MacFit) that now calls the shots. They didn't want anyone else taking the focus away from Berlin. Loveparade SF remained the most successfull Loveparade event for the past few years!!!!

That oughta set things straight!

The SF Love Parade folks are good people. I was a volunteer doing National Promotions for the first and second SF Love Parades. I personally believe both events went off absolutely incredible. Both times completely going above and beyond my personal expectations.. I can’t say enough how important it is that everyone that wants Trance to thrive in the Bay Area again (like it used to) get involved with this. The way I see it, it’s really SF’s Last Trance Stand.. (I’m a total Trance elitist, sorry) I mean the last two Love Parades in SF were really a positive thing, and if we can keep the momentum going we could easily turn it into a good world-class electronic festival. SF needs it, America needs it. We’re not a bunch of hillbillies driving around in pick-ups I swear, not some of us at least.. I have full faith in Jen M’s abilities.

Pep talk over

Nice to hear the truth! :) Went to the first two Love Parades in SF and both were incredible...I liked the second one much better though since there were more Trance artists and the afterparty with DJ's Above & Beyond, Blank & Jones, Ferry Corsten, Kyau vs. Albert and all the others I forgot really went off!

What I don't like is the rivalry that seems to be developing between SF and Berlin. Love Parade Berlin was once designated as a "non-profit" event by the German government and the huge costs of cleaning everything up (with over 1.5 million people, something like a million Euros) were taken care of by the government.

Since the government changed the status of the Berlin Love Parade to "for profit," all costs are now born by the organizers of the event. Love Parade Berlin never charged any admission fee and I respect and admire that they have never backed down from that decision. Unfortunately, this doesn't work out very good economically (no revenues, many costs) and Love Parade Berlin didn't happen in 2004 or 2005.

This year McFit, a European fitness studio chain, is sponsoring Love Parade Berlin and will be paying huge sums (I read somewhere over 700,000EUR) for the costs involved. It is due to their support and sponsorship that Love Parade Berlin happens at all this year, and I don't think their decision to license the "Love Parade" only to Berlin was made with any animosity towards other countries, they probably just can't sponsor the whole world. Anyone helping to organize Love Parade Berlin, please feel free to correct my facts, but this is my understanding of the situation.

The electronic dance music events held in Berlin, San Francisco, Miami and other cities further the music that we love and encourage recognition and respect for our communities. I am glad to support them all!

Even though Love Parade Berlin is sponsored by a business, they are not deciding what music will be played, but have rather supported the organizers' efforts to give everyone a vote to choose the music they like.

This year, we have a unique opportunity to vote TranceAddict.com to the Love Parade Berlin. Please take a minute to vote if you haven't done so already (click banner at the top of this page for more information, voting ends May 7th).

Then support the upcoming San Francisco event. I was really surprised to learn that only 1 in 5 people who attended the last SF Love Parade donated the suggested $5 to enter the festival. Fundraisers are being held in San Francisco to raise funds for this year's event, and it doesn't take much individually make it happen. Working together, we can bring the best EDM music to the world! :D
