hahaha I was at a 3 day bush party on a little island not far from here and this guy playing, well, his laptop straight up crashed on him and left a series of 2 minute silences...

i *heart* my vinyl :)

I've used a windows laptop in a club environment running SSL, Mixmeister, and surfing the web at the same time with no problems.

they will be fixing the core duo problems. I'd wait till next year to get one.

yeah exactly ryan. it should only be a matter of time. i've heard of a few driver problems for some sound cards though.

I don't know I've used both OSes live at gigs, and there isn't much difference. I especially wouldn't pay almost $1000 extra just for a cooler looking case either.

I've used my Toshiba laptop & Traktor for sessions in a few clubs here in the boonies (small cities). None of these places had turntables and some don't even have decent CD decks. None had the space in the DJ booth for much extra equipment, but my laptop fit in and did a good job.

My laptop has never crashed at a party even during 4 hour sessions, but it has crashed during practice so it could happen. That's why some type of backup music source like a CD deck or iPod is a good idea to fill in the silence (which could last from 10 seconds up to 2 minutes depending on what type of crash). If just the music software (such as Traktor or Ableton) has crashed, it's a good idea to keep something like Windows Media Player ready and loaded with a music track since that could be faster than switching to a CD deck, while you are madly restarting your main music software.

once i was tag teaming with another chicago dj at the radio station (wnur 89.3fm), and he told me he would be using FS exclusively. so, i went ahead and brought a ton of mp3s so itd make life easier, but brought another cd with some ambient/instrumentals with no beats and put that in the cdj. partway through one of his mixes, his comp crashed.

he nearly burst into a sweat. i just hit play on the cdj (which had already been cued) and a nice little piano/ambient remix of some infected mushroom went on the air for a few minutes, which we dropped some fat beats onto once the comp started up.

always be prepared when using comps. i trust my vinyl the most.

razzi.

Yeah vinyl can't do no wrong... unless your needles break

You know quite frankly the more I use SSL under OSX the more I'm starting to dislike using it under WinXP. I was getting some USB dropouts yesterday with WinXP that are nonexistent in OSX.

That's soooo freaking lame... MAC OSX ROCKS!!! I'd NEVER install Windows on my MacBook.
If I see someone running Windows on a Mac, I'll def laugh at his/her face.

Zild
Yeah but you definitely don't need a Mac to run OSX and Windows on the same machine.
Zild
Maybe legally, but people have been running OSX on PCs for quite awhile now.
