Dual Monitors vs Large Single?

well, work has been going EXTREMELY well for me and after investing most of it i decided it was finally time to upgrade my studio set up.
r
primarily these two clunky ass 17" CRT monitors i've been using. I was originally just goin to purchase 2 17" LCD's when i got to thinking how many apple studio's i see with one large 20"-24"...

obviously i'm just gonna go screw around in guitar center to see, but anyone make the switch to one big monitor instead of 2 ?

Hey. I made a switch from 2 x 19crt to 1 x 24 inch wide lcd. Never going back to crt for studio work again. I started using cubase window sets to switch between full arrrangement view, mixer, and effects/vst, and It works pretty good. But the problem is that you can never have enough space. I woudn't mind 2 x 24 inch. but it's expensive... But if I had to choose between 2 x 17 or 1 x 24 i take 24 any day.. Check my studio pics for a screenshots ( My webpage button ) .

that's what i'm worried about... 2 x 17 is barely enough work space for me...

i can always add a 3rd if i get there but to add 2 x 24 is really expensive.

well, this decision is getting easier

im only going for 1 19inch lcd but i only use reason3 so i dont need 2 19inch i will look into 24inch though.

I was thinking of going 1x24 inch vs. dual 19 inch LCDs, but I just couldn't justify spending that much for 1 LCD. I ended up spending $600 for 2x19 inch LCDs with 8ms response time(you won't find that on the larger ones). Also, depending on what video card you have you may not be able to use the entire display(they require support of widescreen resolution, not sure the pixel dimensions off hand). I am currently debating two more (with another videocard) and mounting two on top.

Personally I don't think it is worth spending the cash for one 24 inch when you can get three 19 inch ones for the same price with the same response time. It is a matter of preference though, and having a little gap between 2 screens is a bit annoying, especially in apps like Live where you can't move most of the windows around. It all depends how much you want to spend not to have that gap there.

Actually having 2 monitors with Reason is extremely helpful as you can have the sequencer in 1 window and the rack in another.

djdirty, wow!!! i'm very envious of your setup, that looks very closely to my ideal space! btw. do you notice a big difference since placing the foam pads? (i'm assuming auralex?)

the only difference is i'm prolly going to go for 2x19" lcds. but the jerker desk from ikea looks very convieniant (do the speakers seam sturdy on those flaps?) i'm prolly going to invest in that desk...the only main differnce for my setup is i'm investing in the novation remote sl61 (can't wait)...it definately must be a joy working in that space!

2x19" LCD for the win. The 24" displays are beautiful, but 2 19"s do the trick. Plenty of space to throw windows about.

:)

To each his own though. :)

i have got just one 19"LCD, which is enough for me, using FL...you guys are just too lazy to switch windows! :p :p :p

Since i have no money im just using my current laptop LCD (15.4" widescreen) and a 17" CRT moniter that was lying around.

Hey djbruuen!
Well the foam makes all the diefferance in the world in that room. In fact it's day and night diefferance. That room is the best sounding in the whole house :) It has some home made ceiling (real traps) as well.

About the desk. It's pretty chap, and it's great. You can add those speaker shelves for like $40 bucks , and they are pretty sturdy. They hold my monitor's without a problem. I eaven tried putting both my monitor's on the shelves at the same time, and they hold up. I also like the idea of adjustable desk top. It's really good for what you pay for it.

And novation sl 61 :) that's my next purchase, along the Prosonus fader port(miss my mackie controller)I should say I miss a real fader for use in cubase. I need a good controller, I can't work on a 49 key. I am use to 61-76 controllers. Novation SL is really in the ligue of it's own with all the functionality and quality of it's keyboard, and key action. I am gonna update the studio pics sometimes tonight with some higher quality ones, and of the current setup. You're welcome to stop by and check it out :)
