Blake you have to do a little more information diving than simply checking out the specs and comparing them straight up to a Windows based PC... It's really Apples and Oranges (no pun intended). :)

And I wouldn't go back to Windows from Mac in a million years... True that OS X Tiger has some isses, but for the most part if people have kept up with their updates, they aren't a problem anymore.

Edit: Also, it doesn't really sound like you have a ton of experience working on proper Mac's, I guess if I were you, I just wouldn't make blanket generalizations about something you don't really ever use outside of a classroom setting (where we all know that computers, PC or Mac, have a tendency to get ed rather quickly).

To each their own, but I just don't see a really strong argument from you as to why people shouldn't be using Mac's...

being an apple user, would you suggest picking up an apple care plan?

$349!!!! wtf? worth it? [/thread-jack]

Yes. Let's just say that in the third year, or whenever some sort of new generation comes out, you'll be very, very happy with how comprehensive that extended warranty is... ;)

I'm not usually the champion of extended warranties, but Apple's is money...

So were all of mine, and they're loaded... I think with that number I could pay for all 3 of the mac's I've ever owned.

Wow, I didn't know so many MWTA's used Ableton! I may have to post a thread and get some feedback from y'all on my own sets that use it.

it's really not this big mac vs pc debate that you are now turning this into. i was just telling the guy that he shouldnt jump on the mac bandwagon because ableton hiccuped since macs are certainly not free of problems. i then posted what i think are great examples of why i think that my argument holds water:

A) apparats mac crashed twice and smartbar the other night
B) protools 7 on G5 macs in my class crash all the time.

and those were just two off the top of my head. i could have gotten way more elaborate with it.

thats just dandy that you wouldnt go back, most people are usually overprotective of their investments. Updated XP machines are fine too, especially if you run a little antivirus now and then and dont go ing with the registry like i do all the time and burn myself.

those G5s are cleaned daily and kept up pretty well from what i see. not to mention they are used ONLY for music production. i open 4 wave files in protools at once, poof crash. wtf is that all about?

you dont see a strong argument from me because im really not trying to have a mac vs pc debate. they both capable of having signifigant problems that are undeniable, ESPECIALLY WHEN DEALING WITH AUDIO SOFTWARE AND VST BASED . with that being said, and like i said twice earlier, i just warned the guy to shy away from the elitist mac bull bandwagon, and not to jump on it purely because ableton crashed on him, thats all.
