| And I had no idea until now that it was Michael Burns who sung in his own tracks. For some reason I always thought it was some shy vocalist who didn't want his name mentioned. Even more respect to Senor Burns now. |

took a listen to your set myra and i liked it alot. started off dark/proggy then got funky at the end, completely opposite to rob's apologies set. i really didn't like the opening track by jimmy van m..mehh. flow was good but overall the track selection wasn't as strong as rob's.
if this was your first time mixing.. wow! keep it up myra! i've never heard of a bf/gf dj'ing duo b4!!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D |

Since you and Bobby are pretty much the reason I haven't given up on spinning at this point, I figure you deserve to have the thoughts you already know I have about your mix posted up too (did that even make sense?!?!?)
In any event, this set is definitely programmed in a very solid manner, and even though you had a lot of limitations with Mixmeister, the mixing isn't ever blande or uninteresting. My favorite segment of the set:
06: Spirit Catcher - Code Breaker
07: Michael Burns - Corrective Tones (Matthew Dekay Remix)
08: Summer of Space - With You (Ronan's Peak Time Dub)
09: Stef Vrolijk & 16 Bit Lolitas - Between Dub
It just works so well. The mix from Code Breaker into Corrective Tones is something absolutely unreal, it just works so well harmonically. And as I told you last night, I'm absolutely loving "With You" right now, and ending with the "Between Dub" definitely brings back a LOT of memories that you and I have shared. I've probably opened more live sets with that than any other track!
This mix rivals Bobby's in terms of programming, but when it comes down to it the highest compliment I can pay to either of you is that the both of you did something for me that no big name DJ could: You made me realize just how much ing fun this music is again. After all the drama with the kids in the D, after my inability to find a groove I could lock onto right now, and all the other stress of life, you know better than anyone that I was ready to give up. Now, thanks to these mixes, I'm ready to give up everything else, throw the cans on, let go and just rock out.
Thank you! |

Nice dude. Burnout happens to everybody with almost every interest if you keep at it long enough (especially music).
I've probably felt like mixing was a waste of time at least two or three times in the last three years, too. But all it takes is listening to one good mix to make you remember how good it can make you feel and how fun it is to do it yourself. If you feel like it, don't be afraid to step away from it for awhile. If and when you come back to it, it feels great. Sounds like you've gone through that whole cycle more than once too ;)
I've always wondered what it is about EDM that makes those who are passionate about it super passionate about it, compared to other musical genres (in general). |
