headphones

1. sony mdr-7506/v6
2. sennheiser hd-25 (the higher quality version, sp?)
3. technics rp-dh1200

there is a reason the mdr-7506 has been an industry standard for over 20 years

every radio station i've worked in, most professional studios i've been in, have all had at least one pair of mdr-7506 within close reach

i've sworn by mine since i bought them, i'll be adding the other 2 sets to my collection, a dj can never have enough good headphones

Which one would you say is the most comfortable? Comfort is big on my priority...and I don't think Guitar Center lets you take them out of the packages to find out...unless they have some lying around. I have pretty sensitive ears, so I don't want anything i'll have to turn up too loud, the ones I have now I have to turn up loud because they aren't loud enough!

7506.

so far it's the only one i've worn in a marathon set situation

it passed with flying colours

Cool I see a lot of DJs using them. I'll check those out. Thanks...I don't really like the design of the HD 25s, and the Technics ones might work too so i'll see but they are expensive...

Seems like the Sonys are the way to go.

Nope, in the digital world there is always some sort of "step". They should just stop publishing it as a spec though, as it doesn't make a difference!

Most everyone I know who mixes on both CDJ's and 1200's (including myself) will tell you that mixing vinyl is an order of magnitude more difficult than mixing on CDJ's.

I think different, mixing with vinyl is more accurate. Here is the evidence.. BUTT it doesn't make you a better dj or whatnot.

Speed Stability is specified as Wow and Flutter. Wow being slow variations in speed and Flutter being fast variations. The measurement is in % and is an average or weighted value. Good numbers for a belt drive design are less than 0.1% and for a direct drive 0.05%. Inexpensive direct drive systems are more apt to have higher flutter. This can be audible as a shimmering to the sound, most noticeable in piano recordings. A good additional measurement for direct drive systems is a peak wow and flutter measurement. This can reveal the sonically audible variations that don't show in the average measurement. Hi Peak Flutter levels cause a smearing of hi frequency detail.
Only one table that I know of specifies this measurement.
The amount is 0.005% peak W & F and the company is Technics, the model is the SL-1200 MKII.

Thanks to new digital technology Serato Scratch has been able to make this possible.

The Facts

The Second Edition Scratch LIVE vinyl (CV02) is diferent
from the first edition (CV01) in two ways. Firstly, the record was
mastered on much better equipment than the original, and does
not suffer from any noticeable pitch variation (0.0026% max).
Secondly, the absolute positioning signal used in CV02 di?ers
from CV01 enabling the software to distinguish which version of
the vinyl is being used, and even which side is playing.
The second edition is obvious from the red band on the upper
right corner of the sleeve. The label on the vinyl, besides being
marked CV02, has large A and B markings to easily tell between
the 10:00 and 15:00 sides. Scratch LIVE software version 1.2 and
higher is required to use the second edition vinyl.

How does that make it easier? There is NO wow and flutter on CDJ's.

"Set it and forget it"

When I mix with my 1200's you have to be ready to ride the pitch at all times. There are many other factors which can affect your beatmatching on TT's then with CDJ's. Wind, vibration, skips, crappy tables, worn out pitch sliders, acts of god...

there must be something wrong with ur 1200s then... ur definetly not supposed to ride the pitch.... u just get it once and leave it.... at least that works for my 1200s.... and i got dns3500s as well and theyre pretty much the same as 1200s when it comes to pitch... just find it once and leave it.... its good for a min or so at least....

if i got a pair of these would i be able to play on the cdj 1000 as well if i wanted to or would it be complicated and confussing? This is important to me because i have friends that have the cdj 1000 and i play in a lot of places that have them so i would like 2 know. I like these cd players better than the 1000 but if i cant use both well without owning both then im going to go for the cdj 1000. Thanks

I have year old MK5's. They do hold their pitch just find, it's just the getting the pitch "that perfect" is sometimes a pain in the ass.

Not to mention that records tend to speed up a bit as the stylus gets to the center.
