Today is national Earth Day. Show your appreciate of the earth, and do something good for the environment.
->plant a tree
->walk or bike to work/school or take public transit (ditch the car)
->recycle
->pick up garbage along roadsides, or in your neighbourhood
->buy some local/organic food (The Big Carrot rox;) )
->check out one of these two online environmental magazines: www.grist.org or www.treehugger.com (which was founded by a Canadian)
->buy this month's issue of Vanity Fair (the Green issue) for a great essay by Al Gore on global warming, and some inspirational profiles on eco-warriors throughout the globe
->don't use any harmful products today (everything from your shaving cream to your laundry detergent)
->buy a water filtre, ditch the water bottle (which contains an enormous amount of harmful chemicals in the plastic, and not only that, according to Alive Magazine, the manufacturing process of a single bottle of water uses the equivilant amount of energy as a 60 watt bulb in 48 hours)
->turn off the lights!
->protest infront of city hall wearing green clothing (preferably from an organic fibre)
->join an environmental organization
->do some online surfing to find out what global warming REALLY is (or just get the Vanity Fair Green issue)
->go to the Green Expo, held April 29 in Peterborough for everything from organic food and clothing, to hybrid cars and waterless toilets
->visit a conservation area and really get in touch with nature
->switch to energy-reduced light bulbs
->go visit the Windfarm located north of Shelburne, and rally for pro-wind energy at a local council meeting
->if all else fails, just go HUG A TREE!
Think GREEN! Let Earth Day be every day! :D |
