New York State SUCKS for laser use!
Any laser that is over 5mw (your basic laser pointer) is illegal to use without a D.O.L license from the state and that costs $$$$$
That's why Euro shows rock, no regulations AT ALL, so they just go nuts.
Some lasers aren't that expensive anymore, but they do need a little T.L.C. and a club isn't the best place for that...***sigh**alas:(
(Hi Kel, been a while;) hope school is goin' well for you) |

there is absolutely no reason to make this comparison. spirit has zero things in common with twilo besides the street address. twilo had really cool lighting. what was most incredible about the lighting at twilo was if you saw sasha and digweed or paul van dyk for a long set you'd never have the same visual experience twice. as the music progressed so did the mood set by the lighting and it just never really looked the same at 1 am as it did at 2 am or 3 or 11 am. they also had these really cool neon rings on the ceiling that lit the place up in a strobe sort of way without the seizure inflicting flash. i wouldn't know how to describe the rest of their lights, but yeah, no comparison to be made with spirit. i guess towards the end of it all the were bringing in full on lasers.... pvd's last gig there was the only time i experienced them. but the club's own lights were way cooler than any of the big clubs around n ow. |
SOO true! |

Hmmm, but Crobar and Spirit, for example, have used lasers for their shows before. So what is stopping them from using them more often? Is this liscense only a temporary thing so that they can get it only for one show? |

wow. very interesting, thanx for the infos. now i'm wondering why they have licenses for lasers-- 1> to make money (of course that's part of it) and 2> possible bc it causes risk to people? :conf: (i know it's bad if u point it in ur eye and whatnot..... :wtf: ) |

Lasers in the eyes!
I took those pics at a party in the UK. If they really do damage the eyes, I think people over there should be worried... |

Why are lasers restricted? Is it because they pose health risks? If so, what kind? Please elaborate.
About Europe, so true, they don't have any regulations at all, for example women can strip and party naked, just check out how people party in Hungary -> www.partymagazine.hu (NOTE: not safe for work). Look at their clubs, crowd, and entertainment... |

| i dunno but as a marketing gimmick, the made event people talked about their laser show for paul's first two central park gigs requiring FAA clearance! even though last years central park gig rocked in all other ways, the laser show was weak compared to the past ones. maybe they forgot to ask the FAA this time :D |

Well in that case I think it has to do with the fact that the event was outside.
Perhaps the lack of lasers is cause people think that a club going till 7AM with lasers means that people are on "drugs" and with the Rave Act and stuff like that the clubs want to keep that "image" quiet.
Either way it sucks, NYC should have the best lights in the country, honestly we don't have except the DJ's, the clubs here suck, the lights do and the sound could always be better. IMO!! |

Yeah... but... I think the DJs make up for it. I'd say 48 out of 52 weeks, there is a good to great DJ in NYC. Sometimes 2 or 3. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a place like that elsewhere in NA. |
