| Minimal sucks dick, its so boring. No energy. Did any one get the Loco Dice and Richy Hawtin CD's with mix mag, if this is what a minimal night is composed of, i cant think of a worse way to spend a night, ow yes i can HIP-HOP/R'n'B night. |

May not be minimal but eh:
Lonestar - New Kicks
Actually it's progressive house so scratch that. I still thinks it's a massive tune though. |

| I don't think andy is completely wrong here, he is just being too absolute about it. Minimal, at least in my opinion, is a very hard genre to mix, as maintaining a flow is incredibly hard. Most of the time I find I am bored with minimal sets, even though they always seem to have a few shining moment in them. I described my theory in another thread about Holden's Controls, but I will put it in here, as it didn't spark any discussion in there. The problem with the minimal genre is that it often times seems to get full of its own . Producers seem to be filling songs with glitchy bleeps and whathaveyous jsut for the sake having adding yet another layer of noise. A ton of songs never really go anywhere, but remind me of the hip-hop loops lapping over and over again through a song. In mixes this can lead to disasterous results. I propose, rather than throwing glitchy track after track, think if you interjeccted a few more songs with melody and soul in them, like Tejada's- End of the World. Juxtaposed against the at times, harsh sounding, glitchyness of your other (more common sounding) minimal tracks, and you have a new formula that I have never heard be used consistently in an EDM mix comp. Glitchyness with melody breathers. Just a thought. |

It annoys me when people asscosiate holden with minimal as a genre. At the controls contains a few decent minimal tunes but it really isn't what I'd class as minimal, try something like transitions for a proper mix, while not to everyones tastes, imo it sums up what minimal should be.
i find it's become a phrase for describing any sort of slowed down electronic music, the majority of things people class as minimal these days are really not. |

minimal tracks are not always slow - there are several minimal tracks that can be spun at a higher bpm and sound fabulous at the peak time of a club night |

i would definitely say that these mix cd's do not represent a hawtin or loco dice live set |
