I know there's a thread in c0r about this already, and that the majority of internet savvy forum trolls that we have here on TA most likely saw this film months before it's US release, but I figured with it's official release we could get a discussion going on in here... I'm about to sit down to watch the flick for the second time, but here's a cut and paste of my initial reactions to the first time watching:

Definitely a gorgeous film... Storyline was OK, but clearly trying to be a little too much like a video game with all the cut scenes, and none of the game. I really dug it, but I'd doubt whether or not people who aren't fans of the series would get into it. A couple things I wondered while watching it:
- Who the is Denzel? :wtf:
- I'm assuming it's because the film was made in Japan, but I wondered (note, I wasn't bothered by this, just thought it was odd) why they seemed to decide to change the more European featured character models from the game to character models with more Asian characteristics.
- The 3 "Remnants" seemed more like irritating school yard bullies than genuine enemies.
All in all, i was very satisfied and I'm glad I got it, though I think my expectations in some regards were perhaps a bit too high for certain areas.
Oh, and I will, without doubt, never, EVER listen to the English dub of the soundtrack again... Japanese + Subtitles FTW! The english dub was so bad it was laughable at parts... It's funny, because a few of the English voice actors (Cloud for one) were terrific, but the ones that were bad, were TERRIBLE... :haha: |
Will be back with more complete thoughts later today... |

Also, anyone have any new developments/word on the supposed FFVII remake coming to PS3?
I am really curious, considering Square Enix is working with Microsoft as well as Sony this round, to see if that FFVII remains exclusive to PS3... if it did, it'd sell a boatload of systems at any price. |

the ff7 intro demo redone for the ps3 was supposedly just a demo. i read an interview somewhere from the lead square-enix guy that was in charge of it, and he said it was mainly that.. a demo, to show off the ps3 capabilities
if the demo becomes a remake, i will be the first in line to buy the game, maybe even camping out like star wars nerds to await the 2nd coming! |

OK, I had read something similar to that, but I could have sworn that I had just recently read an interview (also direct from Square Enix) where the prospect of a remake was seriously teased... |

E3 2005: Final Fantasy VII Demo Shown
Sony pimps the power of the system... but where will it lead?
by Ivan Sulic
May 16, 2005 - At the Sony E3 2005 press conference Square-Enix just showed a Final Fantasy VII trailer running on PS3.
The demo depicted the introduction sequence to the original Final Fantasy VII, but was titled "Technical Demo for PS3." This means that it may or may not turn into an actual game. The PS3 can finally deliver Final Fantasy the way it gamers always wanted it to be delivered -- looking just like the CG cutscenes.
The demonstration was a complete recreation of the beginning to Final Fantasy VII using some "awesome, awesome" graphics (according to our staff on the scene). It's an exact duplicate of the original game. It could even be a full recreation.
UPDATE: We received word as soon as our boys made it back that Square Enix wanted to make it clear that there will not be a Final Fantasy VII remake for PS3. Repeat, there will not be a remake. But, there will be a new Final Fantasy game for the system somewhere down the line. We'll have info on that as it happens. |
