They got eliminated because Tapattonni (sp?) did the predictable position changes as per the Italian way of soccer. Score a goal, and defend the rest of the way. When they got into overtime, Totti was red carded, which was bull - and the team was running an all defense, when Korea was running an all offense. Of course Korea has a better chance to score in that situation, and they did.

One of the biggest losses to Italy in this World Cup is not having Maldini playing - unquestionably the best defensive soccer player ever. The will have Camoranezzi, Zambrotta, and a bunch of other great defenders, but having Maldini was huge.

Will Italy win? They have the ability and the talent, but I think Brazil has WAYYY too many weapons in Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Robinho, Cafu, Kaka, etc... plus they have a goalie in Dida who is one of the best.

If I was to pick an upset team this year, I pick England.

Beckham, Owen, Lampard, Neville, Gerrard, and of course... Wayne Rooney.

BTW, if youre talking about France, you cant go without mentioning Thierrien Henry. ;)

1. Maldini is past it if you watched club soccer you will see that his age has caught up to him he wasnt able to play more than 1/2 the season and when in he became brillant but there are others much better than him.

2. Camorenesi is and he is a midfielder not a defender. Zambrotta is the best defender we have he can play both the left and the right but your missing the best part about the defense and its the combination of Cannvaro & Nesta which will be this duo's last WC

3. Dida is trash this year and most likely will be replaced by Julio Cesar if he impresses in training. Dida has had one of the worst seasons for a goalkeeper yet his previous record could keep him in goal but it wouldnt shock anyone if he was replaced

4. Trap while I hated him really didnt do anything wrong. If your gonna blame him for losing that game your nuts. The italian 442 score and defend with casual counters has won us 3 world cups.

5. Its Thierry Henry and if France does have a chance but a slim one they are in the middle of a transfer of power. Zidane and the back line is quite old but they have some quite powerful young prospects that will need to step up. Their strikers Henry & Trezeguet could combine for massive damage.

6.Englands never an upset and upset would be a Serbia/Ukraine or Ivory Coast going far and winning

1. I know Maldini's age has caught up to him, the guy is what... 38? 39? How many soccer players to do see play at that age? Its tough, but the man is a legend.

2. Italy has always be solid defensively, I have no worries about them in their backfield - or anywhere for that matter.

3. I havent been watching Serie A, so I dont know what or how Dida has been playing this season - I dont have the channels. =\

4. I cant blame the Italian philosophy of score and defend your lead when you have such a powerful defense, and Buffon at goal - but you cant do that in overtime in a tie game - how do you expect to score if youre playing your defense?

5. I dont see France winning this year, I think they will be strong in 2010 when the prospects develop.

6a. Ukraine and Serbia are 2 separate entities. Ukraine is its own country, Serbia and Montenegro is its own country. But considering the group they are in, they have a very good chance of making it out and could possibly upset and win the group, but it will be tough to do against Spain.

6b. England is never an 'upset' but its a team that easily gets over looked. People will say they are a good team, but than go on to talk about Italy, Brazil, Germany, etc... the super powers of soccer. This year, I think its going to be hard to overlook the talent they have put together - and any team that does, will get their asses handed to them.

7. Im disappointed Cameroon isnt in this years WC, I would have loved to see them pull an upset with Eto'o in their front line.

You find me a defense and goalie that can stop Ronaldinho, Robinho and Ronaldo - and that will be the team that wins. Otherwise, Brazil is gonna dance and prance around everyone on their way to the winners ceremony.

Yes Maldini is a legend but so is Romario (yes he still plays) you can call him up. Maldini in Italy is a legend but no one brings his name up. Grosso will be the starter and unfortuantly for him he isnt on a top club but he will be after the WC he is a star.

Also Cameroon should've been in these African nations are gonna get killed I think with the exception of 2. Also if you got soccer channels you would see that England gets more coverage than anyone. It disgusts me lol.

And on that Korea v Italy game it still makes me sick. The game was fixed Im sure of it. Coco got seriously injured with no subs left and Totti's red card was bull as well. Also the momentum of that game shifted so bad before the extra time I knew they were going to lose. Les stop talking about it now:nervous:

OMG something we agree on.

i support england 100%. they probably wont win but i can dream cant i? one world cup, two world wars.....

the second team i support is australia, just for personal reasons :).

we should do a WC game TA meet up. there are some really fun bars in the city to watch the games and the time zone difference isnt so much as it was during the last WC. germany is 6 hours ahead, we can meet for afternoon games.
