So today in class my 8th graders were working on an assignment of making corrections on some work they completed this week and one of them asks: "Ms. Barry, could we listen to some Techno?"
and as some of you know i periodically play trance, house, etc in my classroom for them. so now they're asking for it b/c they like it.
but the funny thing was, 2 of my kids said yeah, do you have sandstorm? i almost fell out of my chair laughing. but i did find an internet station that was playing psy-trance and we listened to that for the remainder of the period!
they tend to work really well with the music going and are even focused more. they were dancing around in their seats but still working. wonder what my principal would have said if he would have walked in? :conf: |

Maybe something like, "NO BODY LISTENS TO TECHNOOOOOOOOO" :p
Sarah, thank you so much for educating an entire generation of students on the dance music scene. We need more teachers like you in classrooms!
I can't believe they know the difference between house, trance, and techno. There's people on these boards that don't know the difference :wtf: |

lawler was the first cd i played for my students and at first they were like what? and then they were like, okay this is cool!
and bas, my ears hurt with some of the stuff these junior high kids listen to so i try to introduce them to other options and even give the G-rated version of some of my dj/club experiences. one of my favorite kids today asked me if i go to raves, and i was like, um, no and i changed the subject. but then i don't really, clubs mostly |

Ms. Barry,
Thank you so much for this! It is a great service you are doing, educating your students that there are more things to listen to than what the radio tells them they should like. The fewer 8th graders listening to Britney Spears the better.
This could be the most important lesson they take with them from your class. Not that you are a bad teacher, just that I can honestly say I don't remember learning a damn thing in 8th grade that I use in my life today.
For their next lesson, tell them its refered to as Electronic and not Techno. :p |

LOL must be a really short story! :p
"Oh man I was so wrecked that night, I was on like 3 or 4....uh...redbulls, and oh man redbull gets me wired."
"then what happened?"
"I danced for a few hours and went home :wtf:" |

| I'll donate my sand storm vinyl to your top student. can we come in and give them an in-house session? a live education. We'll have Clovis go over the characteristics of each type of sound and what gives it their uniqueness. |
