ok here it the deal.

Computer A-> Has a router(linksys) for AOL(DSL) and windows XP
Printer A->Hooked up to computer A

Computer B->Has a wireless router(Linksys) and I am using my Home netowrk(linksys) to get AOL and the internet.

I want to have the ability to print from Computer B to Printer A. I know this involves a home network but I tried setting it up following the windows netwrok wizards help ish but I got no where. Will I need to install the printer A drivers in Computer B and then setup the netowrk?

Get the network going before you set up any networked printers.

I'm not clear on how Computer B is accessing the internet. Why don't you just use one router for networking, like the wireless one? You should be able to hook that up to your DSL modem and get rid of the other (wired?) one. I'm not an expert on wireless routers, but I have been able to set up wired LinkSys Routers with no problems.

I have two wireless connections to connect to on computer B to choose.
1. Next door neighboor.:disbelief
2. My linksys connection for the internet that I am currently using

pm me if you have more descriptive details.

right click on network properties and make sure file and print sharing are ennabled.

Make sure that the router )a,b,g( and the wireless card are broadcasting and receiving right type.

Share printer over network

Install IPX/SPX

make sure in control panel, administrative tools, services that the "Server" service is started

In Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection, right-click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties. Make sure you have "File and Printer Sharing" installed and checked.
(This can be done on both computers if you want to share files between both of them.)

On Computer A, go to Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes. Right-click your printer icon and select "Sharing...".
In the "Sharing" tab, select "Share this printer" and enter an 8-character name for the printer. Click on "OK".

On Computer B, go to Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes. Right-click anywhere blank on the window and select "Add Printer". This should open the "Add Printer Wizard". Click on "Next>".
Select "A networked printer, or a printer attached to another computer". Click on "Next>".
Select "Browse for a printer" and click on "Next>".
The printer should display in the "Shared Printers" box. Continue from here, installing the printer's drivers as required.

When I borwsed for the printers all it says is...
"Microsoft windows network" ?

How can I prove that both computers are running on the same exact network. Is there a DOS command like ipconfig or something to make sure both computers are running on the same network because if not then I think that would be a problem right there. Thanks for all the help though

If you go to Control Panel -> System, select the "Computer Name" tab. It should display the computer's name and workgroup. Each computer should have a unique name, preferably something 8 characters or less. Both computers should have the same workgroup name, such as WORKGROUP. You can click on the "Change..." button to change the computer's name or workgroup. (Don't select "Domain". I can't help you with that.)

Also, you need to log into WinXP, on each computer, under any user name with an Administator's account. And disable the Windows XP Firewall. (I prefer ZoneAlarm instead. You will need to "Allow" Windows Explorer "Access" in the "Trusted" Zone in the "Programs" tab in "Program Control".)

If you double-click on the "Network Neighborhood" icon on your desktop, it should display something like "Microsoft Windows Network". If you double-click on "Microsoft Windows Network", it should open up "Workgroup". If you double-click "Workgroup", it should display the names of the computers. If you double-click on the "A" computer, it should display shared folders and the printer. If that works on both computers, then your network should be working.

I think the reason is the printer is running off the wrong com port.
I go to
1)"START"
2)"SETTINGS"
3)"PRINTER & FAXES"
4)RIGHT-CLICK, "hp officejet 7100 printer icon"(only printer I have)
5)Select "PROPERTIES"
6)Go to the "PORTS" Tab and see the ports I am currently using

PORT: DOT4_001
Description: hp officejet 7100 printer
Printer: hp officejet 7100 series fax,hp officejet 7100 series

Isn't the ports where the printer is hooked up to and right now its still just receiving infomration(print outs) from COMPUTER A and still does not reconize the network and COMPUTER B.

I think I might have to get one of those printer server usb cards to do what I want to do because there are no cords running from computer A to B so right there is some concern with this wireless ish going on.
