James Holden @ Avalon Review

I'm surprised no one has typed up a review yet.
I thought it was a pretty cool night. It wasn't as packed as when I usually went, so that was a major plus. Josh Wink was pretty damn good, never heard of him until last night. Most likely won't be the last time I hear from him either.
James Holden was pretty good. I love the first track that he played, it sounded so ing badass coming from some good speakers. He actually did end up playing some songs i've never heard before.
The only two songs I recognized were:
LFP - Dark Water
Pier Bucci - L'Nuit <---For Thrax
I also got to meet Hotdogwater again, Thrax, GPC and his lady friend, Ivanbee, Bob Motamedi.
It was also good to see Julia, Anna, Simon, Randy, Tigo, Carrie, and Refuge.
This might be the last night I that I went to Avalon before I ship out to the army. |

I was REALLY dissapointed last night. They had the curtains closed till about 1am while Rebecca Sin played crappy music on that side balcony with the volume low. They atleast should have had her play on the stage with the volume higher.
Anyway, FINALLY at 1 am, they open the front curtains with Josh Wink playing. Like I said in the roll call thread, he isn't my thing at all. He bored me to death. He played a couple of decent songs, but nothing that got me excited.
Then Holden comes on at about 2am. He played a good set, BUT I have been playing out his new cd, and that Planet Rose set, so I recognized alot of the tracks... and he didnt play that one French song I like on his new cd! (anna, simon & kristina know what i'm talking about lol). I think he played way better when he was here in Oct.
So Holden was good, then of course they cut him off after 2 hours. They put down those cheesey AHP curtains!! :mad: Is it in his contract to not play over 2 hours in LA? We waited for a good 45 minutes and they still had the curtains down. I don't know what music was playing during that 45 minutes. It wasn't Donald Glaude, it wasn't Holden.... it sounded like some cd. We gave up after 45 mins and left around 4:45 am... so I don't even know when Glaude finally came on.
Besides the fact that the night overall wasn't the greatest, it was great seeing everyone, you all know who u are! We should have a going away party for Rene! :D |

holden was dropping bombs left and right last nite. nice meeting some new TA's
overall, it was a great nite but i thought he was better the last time i saw him. no lines to get in the club or at the bar ftw :stongue:

| Ok... here go's MO's cheesy review... which matches how wink was last night... Holden however was awesome, only problem was floor was to crowded until I guess something went wrong I guess which people started leaving the floor... I thought It was great cause the he dropped a big one and I had room to move with out gettiong thrown into a washing machine. I wanted to set the damn curtains on fire... they pissed me off. but when they finally came up it was back to more mania. Glaude was God. but he didnt keep me aas good as holden. then a little before the end they changed from glaude... I think so we couldnt make him play any longer when they cut us at 7 and sent us to the balcony... the balcony was packed... but then some room cleared off and i actually got to crazy in daylight... finished up a little b4 9... personally It was a great night... but then again this was all after having a 32oz jaegerbomb, drinking vodka with 2 bums, taking a train from OC to union station... walking around there talking with a guy that just got out of jail that didnt speak english, buming a cigerette to a crackhead, taking subway to hollywood, being the first person there and waiting for an hour and talking to some hot backpacker that just had her first shower in 3 weeks, who got in before me cause i had to stand in the guest list line that i failed to actually stand in. damn what a night. I just wish i could cut my legs off they hurt like a mf. |

| Overall a sick nite, devirginized my friend Fabi with both House music and Avalon. Josh Wink was decent. Ran into Chris/Thrax towards the beginning. Went upstairs for a lil bit and handed DJ playin up there my new track "See it All"...he had the crowd happy and dancing up there, I think Juan was his name. Holden was dropping some nice bombs downstairs, and he seemed like he enjoyed what he was doing to the crowd. Managed to get up on stage while really wasted and hand holden my track as well rite in front of the dj booth lol, probably would have gotten kicked out for that one. Noticed a lot of At The Controls tracks which was great to hear...but what was the last track he played, a dark synth techno bomb. I need a track id on that. Goodtimes. :stongue: |

Hey man! Nice meeting you.
Lomeli, Mobreaks and all the regulars. Nice meeting new faces.
There is really not much I can say, first time seeing Holden and he was ok. It was totally bass in your face, which was pretty in awesome on Avalon sound.
I wished I was back there in October when everyone went nuts, oh well. I'll have to find my fix on another DJ that can totally blow me away. I really like his sound though. |
