Sure you look good, but your body is freaking out on the inside. You are starving it! |
...hence the shots, doctors and nurses...
The body will need obvious help with people 'in the know' to pull something like this off.
If I was in that situation, I wouldn't have it any other way, otherwise that's just insane.
That's why I was so surprised to begin with when MH mentioned that amount of poundage drop; it's very dangerous to do alone and the body would go into shock without close medical supervision.
This is obviously NOT a route for everyone. |

A proper balanced diet(deficit) with good food is all you need with exercise. youll lose weight, have energy and keep the wieght off. its all about a lifestyle change, not a quick diet to cut some pounds(only to put it back on in a year) |
I think its very biased to say things like this...
There are tons of ppl who have very a difficult time losing weight.. due to lots of things, chemical imbalance, very slow metabolic rate, thyroid problems, mental disorders ( binge eating or over-eating)
a lot of ppl need the medical attention and sometimes medicines to help them lose weight.. along with exercise and eating right.. and yes although some of the things out there are fake or dangerous.. there are many things that do help these ppl with their weight problems that they have probably struggled with for many years..
I think its great that there are medicinal ways for ppl to lose weight.. using only these methods of course is wrong.. and everyone should live and active lifestyle.. and of course consult their doctor before taking any sort of marketed weight loss product.. but when you are dealing with someone who is very very over-weight and has trouble doing physical activity.. i think its great there is a way these ppl can lose the amount needed to get back up and be physical

Something that hasn't been mentioned is ensuring you're getting the recommended daily intake of calories, *good* fats, fibre and all the other good stuff. If you're not getting enough calories & nutrients, your body actually goes into starvation mode and stores as much as it can as fat.
I think portion control is what Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and L.A. WeightLoss Centres (to name a few) advocate the hardest. And those kinds of controlled and non-extreme changes to eating habits and exercise can't be thought of as "diets" they should be lifestyle changes for a healthy life. Diets impky that eventually you go back to the way you were eating before you startd the diets which is BAD.
I ate those frozen meals (which actually aren't that bad) for like 2 weeks so I got an idea of what portion control was and trained myself to not overstuff myself. Now I make sure I get enough of the 5 food groups and have small healthy snack between meals. Haven't lost weight, but have been able to maintain it considering I sit on my butt 8 hours a day in front of a computer with limited physical activity. I'm not exercising which I know should - I'm just lazy :(
I try though... |

THANKS FOR THE LINK!!
And one more note: I LOVE FOOD too!!! You don't have to stop eating foods you love, just have to limit how much. |

I put on quite a bit of weight after my 2 knee surgeries. The beers and steaks killed me:D
Basically i came home and did not want to take my shirt of at the beach so i figured it was time to do something about it. I became a nutritional freak. I learned everything there is to know about nutrition. I lost almost 60 lbs over a 2 year period. Ive maintained 4-5% body fat for 3 years. It helps that i play so much so i get rediculous excercise everyday but i also eat very healthy.
Bottom line is, make sure your weight loss is gradual. It is bad, very bad for your body to drop 30 pounds in a month. |

weight watchers points is just a ratio of fibre vs calories.
the basic foundation of all diets is input vs output, w/ atkins it's the idea that not eating carbs will make you feel more satiated and not make your blood sugar levels go all loopy, so you don't get crazing and binge etc.
I can't not eat carbs (espcially b/c I run), but i don't waste calories on regular pasta, white bread etc. I eat buckwheat noodles, whole wheat couscous and brown basmato rice. i do occasionaly splurge and have some refined carbs. I eat a lot of fish, fruit and vegtable and I have a lot of energy and feel pretty good physically for the most part.
The best thing anyone can do to learn about losing weight or maintaining weight is to understand nutrition and how the body works
this is a very good place to start:

yes , some people do have issues with losing weight but most give up WAY before giving it serious effort and trying to change their lifestyle. They dont want to. Its to hard for them to do/they are lazy.
Id rather for someone who has trouble losing to do gastric bypass then to do some of these cracked out diets out there. Sure its sugery but imo most of those diets are worse on your body long term.
Portion control is key and so is eating every 2.5-3 hrs throughout the day . |

FYI, Bernstein is about a lifestyle change. They take great lengths following the weight loss to slowly re-introduce foods so that they can determine how you react to certain foods. Apparently, I have no problem with breads or rice but potatoes are my nemisis. The Bernstein diet is about teaching one how and what to eat as well as proper portion control. Once more, I lost over a hundred pounds in 4 month.... 6 years later and I haven't put it back on. |
