well i just got promoted and now have the option to partake in the company's 401(k) program.

question: should i? do you? what percentage? which plan? high risk? low risk?

i don't know anything about it really

i currently contribute 6% of my paycheck to my 401k here at work...

after choosing one of the ready-made plans for a year or two, i've decided to diversify (kinda place my contribution to as many of the options available as possible). the return on investment hasn't been too bad, it's been about 6% profit overall

for some reason 6% seems really high to me. i was thinking more along the lines of 2-5...do you notice a big difference in your paychecks?

contribute what you can. every little bit helps. well my paycheck varies from wk to wk cuz of overtime and things so i don't really notice.

You should try to get into a Roth IRA....mucho better ;)
lücid
i contribute 3% to mine.

I contribute 15% to mine. Mainly because the state pays 1.50 to every dollar I put in. The sooner there is more money saved up.. the earlier I can retire.

Do it. When i did it, i was putting 5% in every check. After just a lil more than 2 years i had more than 10k in there.
