Good luck, and don't forget to add a few trancy little elements to their music, like a CC's and swoosh effects.

| Metal rules dude! I'm a metalhead turned trance producer. I still love Metal of course, especially the heavy, brutal stuff. |

| Haha, realy? I still have guitare lessons myself. Not realy heavy stuff though, more ballads kind of stuff. I still think he should smuggle in a small 303 in there and a cheasy supersaw. |

I appreciate the luck, cuz I needed it today!
Dude, it was retarded. They were an hour and half late because the drummer's bass drum was broken. So they had to drive to Puyallup, then drive all the way back to Seattle (a n extra distance of like 40 miles basically).
THEN. They kept ing up.
Anyway. I'll post an mp3 with a rough mix once I get it done.
And to make the session even more horrible. The phantom power on one of my pre-amps wasn't working. And I didn't get the overheads recorded on the drums. Super lame. (kidna my fault tho, cuz I realized it too late)
The set sounded awesome with overheads though.
SO yea. What a day. |

| Maybe the failing band and phantom power was a conspiricy by your school to see how you worked under pressure. |

I tell you one thing. It certainly tested my speed and skills as far as quick mic placement and tearing down the kit.
I get all the back to the A/V cage and Keith (the manager) was like "holy crap, that's the fastest i've ever seen a full drum kit come down"
So I guess it was alright in the end. |

| I've got a session coming up with a metal core band in a few weeks. I don't even know what that is. haha. I was told it's cookie monster music. |

I'm an x Metal head and I still love the music, trance gives you that same high but with synths.
And plus you can do a mean heavy metal trance riff ƒº and with the software these days you don¡¦t need to learn guitar just go crazy on a controller keyboard.
Things never go smooth and always something happens to piss you off, but never ever let yourself be beat, come back later and try again.
But the recording studio is different and you just have to improvise if something goes wrong!
Anyway you did a good job bro and we all proud of you!!!!!! |

Yep, as far as I know. It's probably what they call grind core, like Florida's Cannibal Corpse.
I played lead guitar for several metal bands, so I've been in a few recording sessions. I don't know much about how to set up a live recording session with guitar amps, drums and all that. I know there's more to it than knowing what types of mics to use and where to place them. It's a valued skill to have. I've done some of my own recordings, but I just plugged my guitar into an effects processor, then plugged that straight in to the track recorder or PC, and used drum machines or software for all the other instruments.
A lot of death metal has very poor production values. Sometimes I think the bands want it that way, it's a rebellion against that clean overproduced pop sound. Whatever the case, some of the production is so bad it's unlistenable. Personally, I like clean production for metal, it's just way easier to listen to.
Seems quite a few metal guitarists get into composing and producing EDM. Trance and underground metal are similar, in the sense that both allow you to explore and be creative, without too many limitations. |
