I read this on another forum recently and couldn't help getting more info elsewhere..and confirmation..read on:
I am very disappointed with Crobar NYC. There has been rumors that the club has not been letting any asians in. I have decided to test the theory myself and these past two weeks I have been demoralized by the fact that the rumors are true. I was turned away twice on Saturday nights, once on Calderone and the other on Boris. Since I do not know the name of the individual who rejected us, I will call him the Crobar Line God for now since he looks so happy doing his job of choosing who gets into the club.
The first night he turned us away on Calderone night. Reason given was because my party was all guys. All guys - the crowd that usually listens to Calderone are all guys, if you know what I mean! The following week I tried to enter Crobar again, this time dressed very GQ just to avoid any reasons for turning us away and as soon as we got to the velvet ropes, the Line God said 'You're not welcome here. You have to leave now.' I kid you not, those were his exact words. How rude and unprofessional was this guy? After further discussion with people along the block and witnessing other asians getting access denied, I came to the conclusion Crobar was definitely prohibiting asians into the club.
Perhaps two weeks is not long enough to spot a trend, but I want to make sure the word is out. What have asians done so wrongly that we are not allowed inside? I pay my taxes and I work hard like all US citizens. Why is the color of my skin and my money not welcome in their club? Race is undoubtedly a very sensitive issue for us all. For a so-called upscale club like Crobar to promote racial profiling, they should rename the club to Hobar, which apparently many upset patrons has already begun calling the club.
My mission is to get the word on the street and bring awareness that charging 8 bucks for a Heineken is insane but racial profiling is criminal. |

Someone else complained about this for Danny Tenaglia, but I've never seen it happen myself. My girlfriend is asian and none of her male or female friends have experienced it either, as far as I'm aware. Also, from the Tiesto review thread, it sounded like there were a lot of asians.
Next time, say that you want to speak to a manager or something, tell them that this is the 3rd separate occasion and you want to know what the problem is. Tell them that you've been hearing on different messageboards such as TA and rhythmism (which is where I heard the complaining for DT) that they've been kicking a lot of asians off line in the past few months and they should probably justify it or face an investigation and class action lawsuit |

I havent personally experienced this myself..but i just had to post for confirmation from anyone who else has had a similar experience..i think its completely out of line..
I got this quote from someone else on the same topic saying:
| quote: | | Seems like other clubs are catching on to the great new trend. |
...and to be honest, if this becomes a trend in NYC clubs, then they better be prepared for the consequences that lie ahead...tsk tsk tsk..

| When I 1st started to attending clubs in the 90's I remember distictly the doorman(at tunnel) picking people off line if you didnt look good or dress right you wouldnt get in. This same practice still happens in Miami, its the way it is sorry.. My friend fernando has been a doorman in nyc for over 10 years so im sure hes just doing his job at crobar. |

I went to Tunnel all the time in the early to mid 90s and never once saw that....in fact Tunnel was the one place EVERYONE could get in...unlike the top 2 other bigs clubs of that era (Limelight and Palladium) where you could have a problem once and a while. But never at Tunnel.

swears up and down he's the cuz he's running the rope at cbar lol sorry but that club is going downhill quickly, there ain't no where to sit, drinks are crazy expensive and watered down, just blah to me. too bad they are booking all this hot talent, they really need to make some improvements and evolve alittle bit as a club instead of building it, booking talent, and letting it ride. Perhaps a new lighting system and DJ booth... |
